  1. Another t'storm this morning in Ashland! Not nearly as much lightning as the one in late January but its something. 54 degrees, drippy and spring birds chirping!
  2. I noticed another Tornado Warned cell near Little Rock, AR earlier this evening. There have been quite a few near there lately.
  3. Man, that sounds like it was a total nightmare to go though. Thankfully I'm spotting this in the winter time, before it potentially worsens. We have actually just recently been making trips into our attic to put away Christmas decorations and nothing has attacked us so far in there. I believe for now this is a more localized population on the side of the house and they're just trying to shelter from the cold. But any nest can be a bad one. We will definitely do more maintenance through the year.
  4. Just a jab towards the idea certain rich people have on using alternative proteins.
  5. If we don't start eating bug burgers and worm spaghetti the weather will get worse.
  6. I hope late summer doesn't crud out though, Aug 2022 was solid for lightning events, though marginally less rainfall than July of that year. Parts of early Fall was nice last year, but September was too dry for my liking. We had a nice severe potential in the first week of August, then storm activity came to a complete halt.
  7. March can certainly deliver, my single largest snow event in the last few years occurred in middle of March in 2022.
  8. False Spring is here. I had my first 60 degree day of the year on Sunday, upper 50's yesterday and low 50's today. Going to warm back up a few degrees towards the weekend. And that's not all, somewhere inside the walls of my home there are these red wasps that made the place their home. On just about a daily basis I've had to vacuum a wasp in the early evening in my room, and I believe I have narrowed an exact location they're poking through (kind of on the side of the attic door). Can't really afford exterminators at the moment, so I am for now DIY sealing a couple of openings with my own materials and taping up the areas. lol I read some wasps are strong enough to eat through duct tape but I am confident these aren't those kinds..
  9. Having another mild February. these red wasps have been making daily visits in the house. Snowless Feb #3 unless it changes late month.
  10. If February is worth anything in the Ohio Valley, it'll be my first one to feature any real snowfall. Not to say I haven't had a wet one though, Feb 2022 did feature some isolated flooding in the CWA.
  11. Forgot to post this around the time it was happening. We had a thunderstorm late two nights ago, between 11:40pm to 12:20am. First one of 2024! The cool days are back, for now its not looking like any snow in the near future. Perhaps a dusting here and there but I'm focused on the measurable stuff.
  12. Picked up another 3" today in Ashland! Surrounding reports are higher. Various locations of 5-6" (and higher) in West Virginia. Closer to my location, Cattletsburg had a report of 4.5" which is in the same county as here. I'll have to do some more digging, couldn't find Ashland anywhere in the last 50 reports that NWS keeps on their quick LSR page. Getting close to half our annual snowfall already, if February gets one or two more of these types of snows we should be ok on snow.
  13. A warm up is still coming, just goes back to chilly around the beginning of February I assume.
  14. If we can manage at least a normal January on mean temperature that's not bad, I'll take some rain after this. Probably some occasional severe t'storm chances later this month.
  15. A little on the chilly side of things! We had a low of 1 this morning, and some feel-like temps around -5! Waiting on the 6-hour minimum to be stated, but on the 5 minute observations there were several readings of 1. I figure it checks out.
  16. 16 and light snow. Been snowing for most of this last 24 hours in a row, which is not bad for around here. For a brief moment the snow flakes were larger right before posting. Now back to flurry size.
  17. I guess we ended up with a decent amount of snow, just took a while to get to higher amounts. 2-3" in the city, sounds like more a bit outside of Ashland city limits. This is a chilly snow too, its in the teens out and snow is falling. Most of the snow I've experienced is between a temperature of 28-35 degrees.
  18. I woke up to my first measurable snow this morning. It's baby steps though. I'll get pictures when a bigger storm arrives. It's cold however!
  19. This may be our first real snow (below 32 degrees) for the season. Just a dusting a surfaces. Yesterday's severe wx for the most part flopped, I think they banked on a mid-day clearing or some kind of organized frontal passage, but didn't happen that way. All day it was grey and wet in central/eastern KY.
  20. I noticed as well 6-8 inches snow fell there, city school district had a snow day yesterday. One of the cocorahs sites hasn't been up for a year or so, but another one closer to where I had the house was able to match what locals are saying.
