November 2019 Weather Discussion for the PNW
Brian_in_Leavenworth replied to TigerWoodsLibido's topic in West of the Rockies
I agree. We had a bunch of leaves last year that were left beneath the snow just before the first real snow of the season. 4 months later, after the snow melted, they were still there, not having composted at all. -

Unfortunately the GFS looks like an outlier. The Euro and its ensembles, the Canadian and especially its ensembles pretty much continue the theme of high pressure over us for the next few weeks. -

It was still really dry and there are fires, but there didn't need to be any hype added. Some people did though, and that was what Maue was calling out. -

A negative PDO has above normal SSTs below Alaska. So a warm blob is good as long as it is not too close to the coast. -

Ryan@RyanMaue · "5h It's bone dry across Australia fueling bush fires. But, the level of fake news on an easily verifiable fact should question where you get your weather/climate information. It definitely did rain in Australia yesterday (Nov 11th) ... forecasts were wrong." And Maue confirmed that it also rained on the 12th. Dry for sure, but no rain at all? Just not true -

Yeah, not sure why everyone is freaking out about a boring November. Even here in Leavenworth, where we average 94 inches of snow per year, we only get snow on November about half the time, and even then it usually only lasts a day or so. -

Brian_in_Leavenworth replied to TigerWoodsLibido's topic in West of the Rockies
There are different reasons why November could be warm. An active, pineapple express pattern with copious rain. A huge ridge of high pressure leading to warm days. Maybe a better correlation could be found using 500 mb patterns instead temperatures. Probably not, but temperatures by themselves don't tell us much. -

Interestingly according to the CPC, we have not had a +PNA since mid October, and that was only for a few days. Could have fooled me. -

Interesting, since blocking close to the coast would suggest dry weather. -

Pivotalweather.com has more graphics and maps now for the Euro than does Tidbits. Obviously not much to look at now, but will be fun not to have to rely on those with subscriptions to post snow maps. -

Brian_in_Leavenworth replied to Timmy Supercell's topic in West of the Rockies
My late father was born in 1920. I once asked him if he ever had any classmates die. He told me more than half of the kids that he started school with had died before they finished what was the equivalent of high school. They all died of diseases that are easily preventable today because of vaccines. People who think that the vaccines are dangerous are idiots. They have absolutely no clue as to what the world was like before vaccines. -

That brought back a lot of memories. There were two blasts. Note the report from Jim Forman (!) from Whatcom County, not a single flake of snow. Although i remember waking up Christmas morning to snowfall in Anacortes, so North Sound did eventually get snow. Forman has been around a long time, since that was 29 years ago. I posted this in February, and here it is again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=3&v=SlRa2xpSrF0 -

It is about a 25 minute drive NW of Leavenworth. They get about 125 inches of snow. Very pretty area, and very close to Lake Wenatchee.
