  1. We also need a cloud icon to represent the marine layer and other cloudy weather. I think that icon would be used to the max in this thread, especially during May Gray / June Gloom season!!
  2. That cell passed just to the west of me in Orange. I heard continuous thunder while that storm was going by, but really didn't see much lightning except for a flicker or two. I don't think I have ever heard that much thunder before without seeing the lightning that goes with it!
  3. The flow pattern with the moisture coming in from the east and northeast is like that of a monsoon pattern, but the synoptic pattern is different. This is being caused by a cutoff low over AZ circulating moisture counterclockwise into our area, while the monsoon pattern involves moisture and occasional disturbances circulating clockwise around the 4 Corners High.
  4. Wow! Was that caused by strong winds uprooting a tree, or was the tree suffering from root rot and easily fell over as a result?
  5. 0.60" fell here in Orange with this last storm (from yesterday to today) bringing my backyard season to date total to 17.96" (July 1 - June 30) and 14.97" (October 1 - September 30).
  6. I hope that it is ultimately decided that we stay on DST year-round, rather than Standard Time.
  7. 0.45" fell here in Orange with this last storm bringing my backyard season to date total to 17.36" (July 1 - June 30) and 14.37" (October 1 - September 30).
  8. Today was the warmest day here in Orange in quite some time thanks to some weak Santa Ana winds. It was just mainly breezy in my area with nothing extremely gusty.
  9. 0.67" fell here in Orange with last night's storm bringing my backyard season to date total to 14.57" (July 1 - June 30) and 11.58" (October 1 - September 30).
  10. I wonder if some of the recent homeless are those lost their homes during the Lahaina Fire by any chance?
  11. I received a total of 5.03" here in Orange from last Saturday evening to early this morning! This doesn't count tonight's storm, which I will post as a separate total when it comes to an end.
  12. I am surprised that there aren't more from CA on this forum, but Weather West (WW) has a much larger CA based audience. The fact there are more people on WW is why I post much more often there than I do here. It would be nice to have more people on here, but yet I wouldn't want to see WW lose anyone, either.
  13. I checked my rain gauge earlier tonight here in Orange and was at 3.35" and counting since Saturday evening.
  14. 1.47" fell here in Orange with this last storm from very late Wednesday night 1/31 to very early Friday morning 2/2. My seasonal total so far: July 1 - June 30: 8.87", October 1 - September 30: 5.88".
  15. The flow is forecast to turn offshore and some Santa Ana winds are expected over the next couple of days, especially inland, so I wouldn't expect the marine layer to be present over the next few days, except for possibly along the immediate coast.
  16. 2.04" fell here in Orange with the last storm sequence from last Saturday to Monday.
  17. Finally some rain!! It has been raining off and on here in Orange for most of the day, even though there was a break in the mid-late afternoon. A decent band of rain went through this morning into the early afternoon. Then a very fine rain / heavy drizzle in the evening, followed by another heavier band later at night.
  18. Some people still have their Christmas lights up in my neighborhood as well, including my next-door neighbor. Unfortunately, I didn't get around to putting my outdoor decorations up because I got sick during the time I normally do it and by the time I felt better, it was too late. However, I did get my indoor decorations up including the Christmas tree.
  19. It has felt like an east-based La Nina like 2020-21 so far.
  20. If I were going to a weather forum meetup, I would be wearing a shirt with lightning on it.
  21. Only a trace fell here in Orange last night. Way too much NW flow and too inside-slidery.
  22. I noticed that each individual page is only about half as long as it used to, which is the reason for more pages.
  23. I am guessing that is a Liquidambar tree, or some type of sycamore. Given the cold weather tonight and the cold weather forecast for much of this week, I'm sure that tree is going to lose almost all of its leaves before long. Of course, the oleanders in the foreground (I THINK they are oleanders) and the split leaf philodendron by the gate are evergreen, so they won't be losing their leaves.
  24. I received 0.36" here in Orange from this week's storm.
