DEN has been below 0 something like 70 of the past 74 hours. Currently -10.
Quite a stretch...not sure how it stacks up historically, but definitely a rare duration of extreme cold.
Yeah we’re over 100 hours straight now of below zero temps in Bozeman. Should end up with ~115hrs straight. It’s been brutal but also it’s a pretty neat thing to experience in a weather nerd type of way.

Made it all the way up to -6F today! Really looking forward to getting out of the deep Arctic freeze tomorrow and getting back outside again.
Currently -16F.

Have you ventured into town during this cold snap? If so, have you seen any trucks left running in parking lots? Just curious if that's still a thing.
Oh yes. Most cars are kept running in the grocery parking lots during these cold snaps.

-28F this morning after 3" of snow overnight.
Today is day four of consecutive days below zero. Longest stretch of below zero weather since 1990 here. Really looking forward to finally getting above zero tomorrow.

00z gfs shows 18 inches of snow Wed/Thurs in the Flathead with minimal downsloping... nice.
Actually, starting to look like a crush job Montana-wide
Eh, pretty heavily favoring Western Montana. Not much out this way but I'm happy for you guys!

It is amazing, one night at my cabin we had -10 snowfall, about 4 inches and it was the most amazing powder ever! I remember after it snowed and the moon came out everything was glittering.
Yeah we get plenty of below zero snowfall but the intensity of this is definitely the highest I've seen.

Moderate snow and -12F here currently after a high of -8F. I don't think I've ever seen snowfall this heavy with temps below -10F.
Pretty amazing that the atmosphere can even hold any moisture at this point.

Ended up with a -21F/-42F day in my backyard today. (Coldest day in my 7 years here and colder than Dec. 2022)
BZN was -20F/-45F. Bozeman MSU was -17F/-40F (broke daily record by 13 degrees). Good enough for a 53 degree departure on the day.
Pretty insane that the top two coldest days in Bozeman history (records go back to 1892) are now Dec. 2022 and Jan. 2024. Incredible record breaking and brutally cold day.

I think around 10-11am
Temps will still likely be below -20 so at the very least it will likely be delayed some.

What's it looking like for you guys tomorrow? My son is flying home tomorrow, and it looks like the KSEA/KBZN flight didn't happen today. the weather OBS was reporting freezing fog a good chunk of the morning, I'm assuming that's what caused the cancellation. Hopefully it will be clear tomorrow.
From what I heard they had a ground hold all morning because of the cold. De-ice trucks couldn’t start and it was down right dangerous for ground crews all morning with wind chills reaching -68F.
Tomorrow morning should definitely be a bit warmer with the clouds rolling in but we’ll probably still see lows still hovering around -30F. What time is his flight?

Kayla will probably be opening windows when it gets up to 20.
Honestly once it gets above zero we just might! Looking like our “high” for the day is gonna be -21F.

I tried that with the kids last night. We just all ended up being scalded by hot water falling on us!
. I know it wasn’t cold enough for the full effect but it did make a pretty big cloud of steam.
Haha good attempt at least! What was your temp when you tried?
Done it many times since moving here. I've found it needs to be at least -20F but works best around -30F.

You need a better one for sure, it is strange they stop there.
I have a Davis VantagePro2. Unfortunately they all stop there.

My cabin is -28, my friend up there a few miles from me is -36 as well. Just a bit colder than 2021.
It's a pretty big bummer that all the home weather stations bottom out at -40. Even some of the ASOS/AWOS's bottom out at -50. How are we supposed to beat that -70 all-time record?!?

Dropped down to at least -40F here and then that was all my Davis weather station had to give! I'd guess I dropped to -42 or -43.
Looks like BZN has dropped to at least -45F. All-time record is -46 there so very possible we tied it. Shatters the daily record by 13 degrees. Amazing airmass!
Currently -36F.

Had a daytime high of -20F here today. Already down to -33F and clouds are finally clearing.
Sure would appear that we'll break Dec 2022 records at this point. I'm still in awe at how cold this airmass became in the end!

-22F at noon was not something I thought I was going to see with this airmass 2 days ago.

12z Euro initialized about 10-15 degrees warmer than what is actually happening here.
