Not sure where to post this but here goes- Kind of an interesting data point.

Jan/Feb/March 2022 will be only the 4th(see note*) time this century that KDSM has had below normal temps each of the first 3 months of the year.

using current 30 year normals (1991-2020)-- all would have qualified though with their "at the time normals"

2022-      Jan 18.1F (-4.3) Feb 24.2F (-2.6) March going to be 39.1F (-.3F)

the others-

2008   Jan 19.4F (-3.0)  Feb 19.7F (-7.4)  March 35.6F (-3.8)

2014   Jan  18.0F (-4.4)  Feb 18.3F (-8.6) March 34.6F (-4.7)

2019   Jan 20.8F (-1.5)   Feb  18.3F (-8.6) March  34.4F (-4.9)

* would be a fifth in 2011 with current normals, but not at the time.

Some heavy hitters in there for snowfall (esp FEB all 3 top 5 all time)  and 2014 and 2019 were nearly identical. Scary close. 😲

2022 though it qualified is by far the mildest and least snowy of the others.

I'm still learning some info for my new place but I at least filled Ashland's annual snowfall (around 13-14"?). No idea where mean temperatures are Jan-Feb-March. December was a torch and this winter would have been decently stormier than a normal one had we gotten snow events before New Years.

You're okay posting that on this thread, it is afterall an observations post. I did this with the PNW monthly posts.

I thought January wasn't bad. Half or more of the month had pretty chilly days. Healthy number of highs below 40. I think February had a couple 70+ but considering the sun angle I would say it's hard to avoid recording at least one of those in late Winter.

Despite a temp in the low 30s and no sun, our nearly 1" of snow is already completely gone.

Was a interesting march!

This am 1" new snow today and .62 this event.

8 inches snow in march. Snowed on 5 occasions which  is way above avg.

High was 77.7 on 21st

Low was 6.6 on 12th

March 2022 will be remembered  by  at very wet pattern 3.62 rainfall and probably  4.3 if i melted snow. Early march had wild swings in temps, but in general very cool wet windy month compared  to avg. Heres a couple pics this am from my game cameras.

Hello from D.C Really warm this morning 66°. Had a t-storm earlier. We saw the capitol and had a few minutes to see the back side of the White House and Washington Monument. Really cool and quite moving.

Off to Chesapeake, VA today!

No thunderstorm here yet. But some serious winds moving into the area.

KJYO sustained at 45, gusting to 58. Lots of 50+ gusts showing up in the dry slot now. Could be arriving here shortly.

A tornado just missed me by a few miles. Definitely over-performed my expectations.

A few good lightning bolts and heavy rain here but nothing severe. The gradient winds earlier in the day were close to severe threshold, though. Solid day considering how early it is in the season.

Better you than me. It gets too dangerous down here.  I’m tired of hail damage and torn up houses, wildfires.

It’s going to rock and roll tomorrow.
Hopefully the tornados and hail will go east.  Maps I’ve seen appear to involve south down to Austin and east into Louisiana.
I’ll take the rain. The nasty storm parts -no thanks.  I have 2 family members on the road Monday.

Speaking of rain, I have more snow in my forecast tomorrow that will eventually switch on over to all rain. More flakes are possible by weeks end again, b4 temps start to really warm up, perhaps breaking the 60 degree mark by the weekend and especially early next week. It has certainly been a cold Winter and start of Spring up here, so hopefully, temps begin to become more milder.

Stay safe down there. Hopefully, as you say, receive only rain and no severe weather.

Spring has arrived.  Everything busting out green down here.

We have a 100% chance of severe storms with hail and possible tornadoes this evening and tonight.

You know, night time tornadoes use to be a rarity in Texas but the climate has changed over the past 25 yrs and they are equal chances now.  I just hate it.

High of 80* today, Low of 58*  Chances of rain and evening storms 100%
