[Missing] March 2022 PNW Wx Discussion

Recommended Posts

Monday’s storm keeps getting more neutered. Saturday looks like only a narrow swath will really score. No way Portland stays as the bullseye. Spoiler alert, it will trend north. In fact, it will probably fall apart altogether.

Beyond Monday, it looks mainly dry until the end of the week. That’s 10 days out, so it’s meaningless and will inevitably end up drier.

Oh, and 0.00’’ here today.

At the rate things are going w/ respect to thermocline shoaling, we could maintain a -ENSO background state through 2022.

I’m shocked, tbh. Did not expect this at all, even just 4 weeks ago. I thought El Niño was a sure bet, but the climate system has made its intentions known.

It seems to me that a few years back, you were forecasting a multi-year La Nina episode during the early 2020's, possibly until 2022 or 2023 if I remember correctly. It seemed to have something to do with the deep solar minimum that we were beginning to go into at the time.

Your bio says "above federal way but below des moines"... I thought Federal Way was like 400' and Des Moines near sea level?

We had a multi-year weak La Nina in 2016-2017 and 2017-2018, then had a weak El Nino in 2018-2019 and in 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 we are having a multi-year Moderate La Nina. 😠

It quickly became quite negative in those topics and I was one of the culprits, hard not to be negative and divided right now but at the end of the day that is not going to help anyone or anything. Probably for the best that Fred shut er down.

Had a low of 34, currently 36 and clear. Frosty grass.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with realistic honest negativity. Life right now and in the last couple years hasn’t been great hard to spin it any other way. I think some people just had different opinions and sometimes it got personal…but whatever the forum will be just fine without the extra sub forums.

Pretty nice morning…should be a decent day. Looking at the euro just one freeze (tomorrow morning) here the next 10 days. By the final 1/3 of March we start getting to the point we start seeing our final freezing lows of the season (here near the sound anyways).

Dropped to 29F here overnight as the DP plummeted to 20F. Meanwhile Arlington somehow managed to over perform (like always) and got down to 23F this morning.

The 06z GFS looked incredible for the mountains! 10' of snow for the North Cascades in the next 16 days. Of course it sees to swing wildly with each run, but at least we should get the snowpack in the Washington Cascades close to if not above normal in the coming weeks.

Wow we stayed warm here then, it is quite breezy out which probably kept the temp up a little. And I just looked at my DP when you mentioned that and I am sitting at 12!
