[Missing] March 2022 PNW Wx Discussion

Recommended Posts

1 hour ago, Meatyorologist said:

Flipping through some of DC's records, December is night and day. While in recent decades even a subfreezing high is hard to come by, during the late 19th century there were incredibly severe cold snaps almost every 3-5 years during that month, to the severity of Dec 1989 (though not usually the length)

Yeah, December has gone completely AWOL here, just as January has in the PNW. Possibly even more-so?

It’s been deteriorating for awhile, but that trend has accelerated over the last decade. I remember several significant December events from my childhood, but there’s been nothing of note since 2009.

During the Revolutionary War/late 18th century period, December was possibly our best winter month. Benjamin Franklin and others noted multiple blizzards and extreme cold waves in December during their lifetimes.

Crazy how climatology changes like that.

Almost time to change my signature to warm season stats. Definitely looking forward to longer brighter days…and more weather variety.

As much as I like snow, the short days during the core of snow season get tiresome. I’m already enjoying the longer days.

I love all the seasons here…but I really like spring. It’s always exciting seeing the days get longer and warmer. I’m also a big fan of warm mild rain which we usually get a good amount of in the warm season. Of course by late July I’m ready for fall/winter and snow and cold prospects.

46 and cloudy here. Euro has 2” of rain here this upcoming week and 1-3 feet of snow in the mountains during that timeframe. Not bad for mid March.

Looks like Troutdale is down. It was 33 yesterday and this morning according to the car.

A lot of obs stations seem to be having trouble the last few days PDX didn’t even report an official high and low yesterday

50/26 yesterday here cold sunny morning and high clouds in the afternoon. Hit 31 this morning up to 45 currently

Latest euro run might be good enough for snow at the higher elevations on orcas island next weekend. Hopefully it pans out but regardless it’s a pretty good run.

Runs not done but the euro has a pretty chilly trough late in the run. Lowland snow falls at very suspect temps but still a good mountain snow pattern.

Seems like i am always ready for the next season right around the time it starts to arrive spring is nice because day to day temps can be more dynamic plus added solar energy makes heavy downpours/hail/etc more likely under cold troughs also really like when the plants come to life in a few weeks and there’s that sweet smell outside but it’s hard to choose any one season as the best they all have something nice to offer

Yeah…bigger diurnal ranges and thunderstorms are cool. Everything comes to life is a fun part of spring. I also like the seasonal daylight extremes we get here at this latitude. Late june is super cool getting roughly 16 hours of daylight.

It would be nice to actually record a thunderstorm this spring.

Last year sucked. We had our hottest weather ever and still couldn't even score a single convective event anywhere around it.

Haven’t had a decent thunderstorm since 10/13/20 here. Have had a couple 1 hit wonders since.
