We have a lot of those here.

They just showed up around here last spring.  Never been here and the reason I know is they eat the hemlock cones so I now have those all over the place and that was never a problem here. Strange.

Going to be cold. Record low Thursday at SLE is 21, going to be tough to beat.

We have a lot of Stellar Jays here. Growing up on my Dad's farm in the valley we rarely saw them.
Steller's Jay Adult (Coastal)

However, there are tons of Scrub Jays down in the valley, and I've never seen one up here.

California Scrub-Jay Adult is similar to Steller's Jay

Mostly cloudy and 45 here. Should be another nice early spring day. Looking like the first half of March may end up below normal in precip but things could be getting wet in the second half of the euros right.

Somewhat OT... but looks like a decent cold snap coming up in Greece. Might be a tough week ahead for olive growers in some spots.

Some spots in lowland Greece forecasting highs in the upper 30s and snow. Not bad for mid-March.

Looks like Corvallis put up a 54/33 yesterday. They have had about 3” of rainfall since the start of the wet period last weekend good to see

Low of 30 there this morning

The GEF / GEFS finally made a good move toward the colder Euro solution for the trough this week with 850s dropping to -6 or so.  Still not as cold as the -9 being advertised by the ECMWF suite of models.  From what I can tell we should see some places drop into the low 20s later this week.  Maybe near 20 in the coldest spots.  If SEA is going to set a record low it will have to be on the 9th, because the next two days have tough to beat records from 1956.

Really missing the rain in the lowlands and snow in the mountains.  Been way too dry lately. :(  I hope people who like the sun are enjoying it though.  I just hope we will have enough snowpack for summer, for our farmers, and all who rely on that water.

Hope everyone had a fantastic Sunday.

They nest in old snags.  Starlings have run many of them out plus loss of old dead trees.  We have several nesting pairs along our creek.  When they get to hammering on trees looking for grubs, it sounds like jack hammers.  Many times you can get pretty close to them for pics.  Amazing birds.

That is very cool!  Never seen any bird that colorful before around here except Goldfinches, a few Blue Jays, and once a red cardinal that must have been lost.

I get tons and tons of Stellar Jays. I've seriously seen like 10 of them at one time in my cherry tree. Also get the occasional spotted towhee. Northern flickers are somewhat common as well and they sometimes peck at the chimney. Plenty of hummingbirds too. Don't get me started on the number of turkeys that live in my neighborhood.

Not all the lowlands are dry of course... or need any more rain.

I think Everett had like .25 while SEA had one of its wettest days in history and 5 inches of rain in 3 days and we had 11 inches out here.     Just crazy difference inside the rain shadow bubble there.   Totally understand your perspective.

All the bird talk reminds me of the pet crow I had. I found him on the ground alone and was just a baby so I raised him. I had no idea they needed to be fed for the first 6 months or so haha, I had to feed him like the mom bird does for months. Long story short I had him for 5 years before he died for unknown reasons but was definitely the coolest pet I've ever had!! Very VERY smart animal and into everything! He would sit on my leg and watch TV with me, chase the dog around and even sneak up and peck the dogs tail and then run away fast. I kept a wing clipped some but he could fly a bit and I would let him out during the day and he would stay around the house.
