Would be nice. Just rooting for a below average June/July. August can do what it does.

I mean as torchy as we've been this last decade, the other foot will come down. Maybe for just one year, and maybe not all that much, but we'll have a reasonably cool summer eventually. IIRC some areas in southwest AK broke a similar streak just this last summer.

Weird convergence last night. Was very focused over a small sliver in king county along the sound.  SEA somehow got .46” of rain already today.

Apparently caused by NE flow around the trough sinking south into CA.    I don't think it rained at all here last night... the deck is dry this morning.     SEA is now at 1.02 inches for March and 33.50 inches for the water year which is +7.50.    SEA only needs another 5 inches from now through the end of September to reach normal rainfall for the water year.

On another note... the birds are singing loudly this morning.   As loud as I have heard this year so far.   Birds and frogs are signaling the beginning of spring.

Euro looked kinda chilly late next week…but other than that doesn’t show anything too crazy for the first half of March. Has been pretty typical so far…up to 0.54” this month after a low of 41 and 0.04” since midnight.

I heard my first Cheeseburger bird (Mountain Chickadee) yesterday here in Tahoe. To me that always marks the beginning of spring!

Grandmother saying it hasn't snowed since January in K-Falls. I went and checked out the cocorahs site (KL-5), looks like they're totaling less than 1" from January 1st to March 3rd. Looks like December was the only winter month they had.

Unlike other seasons with snowy Decembers, it did continue to snow in Jan/Feb 2016. Not sure how much rain has been falling by Medford's CWA but that is easily less snow than last year going into Spring.

Makes it sound so easy to escape the wrath of the storm! This is exactly what I envision doing on my road trip ( pending gas prices 😡).  Just being beyond the storms reach and enjoying the show.  Then to somehow slip away from the main force without getting my 4Runner destroyed!
Then again I may just sit there frozen in awe as it overtakes me !!! Storms and the energy they release are amazing and such a draw!!!

I have a feeling July will be reasonably cool. August will be typically warm. Just a gut feeling.

The first half of summer has been the torcher where I left. Unlike the west sides, there hasn't been a top tier August since the 1990's at Gma's place. A June like 2013 or 2012 would be good.

I'm lucky that my wife loves camping, probably more than I do. We went camping a lot last year. We'll see how much we go this year with the new baby, but we'll probably go a few times at least.

Can't even remember the last torchy March. 2015, I guess.

2016 was certainly mild but pretty wet and so didn't feel too crazy.

We talk about this every year, but March is probably the most barren month of the year here. Especially early March. Our green up doesn't usually begin until mid-April. That's why I don't mind snow in March, at least it covers the bleakness of the landscape.

We talk about this every year, but March is probably the most barren month of the year here. Especially early March. Our green up doesn't usually begin until mid-April. That's why I don't mind snow in March, at least it covers the bleakness of the landscape.

Yes... we do talk about it every year.    We also talk about fall colors.   One of my favorite things is tracking the seasonal changes from winter to spring.   And a close second is tracking the progression of fall colors.   👍

And yes... there does seem to be quite a disparity between our areas during March.    In many years the trees start to leaf out here by the last week of March... but the real explosion is almost always during the first half of April.   There has been a very noticeable green up here in the last week which is pretty typical for early March.  The grass is definitely starting to grow now.

1.02 for the month and .05 today.  Just had a gloomy shower roll through.

45* and dark clouds about

The clouds have been moving from NE to SW today... just far enough west for some sunshine here this morning.

At the moment, the only evidence of spring here is the early morning bird chorus. Started to become more noticeable last week.

Interestingly, the green-up appears significantly delayed for now. Daffodils and snowbells just started poking up a few days ago. Grass is still brown and dormant, barely any buds on the trees. Things were much greener in December.

Of course this will probably change in a hurry with the upcoming blowtorch Sun-Mon.

U ready for heat (stroke) season?

Make sure your AC is up to the task b4 it starts. We’re having our system checked out next month.

It's funny I dropped a month that was pretty hot in Kentucky (June 2012) but over in K-Falls I don't think they started having 90's until July that year.

2012 was a furnace, but also tame in the humidity department with lots of dry, westerly flow. The numbers look awful on paper, with lots of 100+ days, but it didn’t feel nearly as bad as some of the more recent summers.

The worst summers are the ones with deep southerly flow. That “ridge-trough-ridge” pattern across the CONUS is brutal. Or any summer with a strong Bermuda high.

Seems like most models show a pretty active pattern by mid-month.

Would be a nice change of pace from recent Marches which have been cooler than average but dry
