This March was the first warmer than average March since 2016, even if a couple of them were pretty borderline.

Maybe we can manage to break some more streaks like that this year. Been a while since our last below average April.

Many of you guys haven't had a climo June in longer than that. I'm not even talking cold ones, just on par.

Your spot struggles to get above 65 on the hottest summer days.   There was no chance in early April.

73 here been around there for about an hour with moderate east winds will have to see if any late afternoon spike can give us our first 75+ of the season

A nice treat before we go into an active, fun regime with lightning, lowland snow, and potentially record cold.

I don't mind torching when in the context of a return of troughing. Today may be the only warmer than normal day in the first half of this month here.

On 4/7/2016 it was 81 in Klamath Falls, after 78 on 4/6 and before another 76 on 4/8.

Looks to get close to 80 there today. If you like using analogs, no major heatwaves occurred that summer and July was half degree below normal using 1981-2010 averages.

Yeah above average sunny dry days like this can be really nice but when they start dominating our climo and harming the ecosystem (basically the last decade) they can get pretty old

Would be nice to see a change of pace and a respite for at least this year although sometimes it feels like the odds are stacked against us in the long game

It looks and feels and smells like summer out there. I love the smell of summer. The fragrance of cut grass, the awakening of the biosphere. Of course all this is one big stupid prank by mother nature, played on all these bees (and even the one hornet I saw stumbling all over the grass!) In less than 60 hours it could be snowing and around freezing.

From 75°F to sticking snow in potentially under 60 hours is absolutely unheard of here. Even in April 2008, when we soared to 79°F then fell to the mid 30s and snow, it took a week. Can't wait to be actively leafing out with 1.5" on the ground lol.

In retrospect, even some of the warmer solutions (a la the NAM) vastly underestimated how well we'd be mixing today. This sounding screams overperformance, especially when temperatures are 2°F above forecast when not even mixed properly, as shown above. The environmental temps not even following the dry adiabat line is a big red flag. Today had 75-80 potential, particularly away from the water.

Most of today here was overcast to partly cloudy with filtered sunlight.  It topped out at my place to 64F but downtown Everett hit 67F.  I noticed more and more clouds rolling in from the west and further north looked cloudy all day.

Yeah... pretty sad.

I am slightly hopeful because this March was significantly warmer than in 2008.    SEA was 3.5 degrees warmer (46.94 vs 43.48).    Maybe this pattern is just a passing similarity.   Or not.

2008 was also Niña/-QBO tendency (of which there aren’t many) into the start of the warm season, so that’s actually a decent match.

But downwelling westerly shear is clearly lagging 2008, so not exactly the same, either.
