Down here it snowed several days in a row and we had a good string of highs in the 30s Christmas through New Years but nothing as crazy as what they saw further north or in the mountains

Yeah up here we had the best arctic airmass since Dec 1990. High of 23 under clear skies, and low of 15 while overcast. Massive arctic frontal snowfall w/ the heaviest rates I’ve ever seen here. 6/7 days below freezing, and 5 straight (two days at 33)

We’re massively due for a dud though and y’all will see the limelight soon. I’ve seen what horrible stretches this part of the region can have. (2013-2018)

ICON trended a little south.

Both the 18Z ICON and NAM still show a significant snow storm for the Seattle area on Saturday night and Sunday morning before that bigger system on Sunday night.

Somewhere in this amorphous blob of cumulus is the developing storm. These CZ sliders tend to look fairly benign until they actually swing through.

Interestingly these clouds are all moving due north along formation axes sliding east. Both signs of a rapidly strengthening CZ.

With the cold airmass and the track of that little wave I could see snow falling to sea level with some light accumulations in places with a little elevation. Above 500' could easily see a couple inches.

I think we definitely have a chance at some snow Sunday morning in the central/southern Puget sound Sunday morning. Euro and NAM like the deformation band idea. Maybe if we’re lucky it’ll stick on some surfaces.

The timing at night is also favorable.    Don't have to worry about that 50-degree sun angle we have at this time of year.

Interestingly the timing of the next system is similar. NAM shows some snow to very low elevations between Salem and PDX just after midnight.

Then a few hours later, some heavy snow in the southern and central valley.

At face value this track would be a great snow event for us... That 983mb low coming onshore could cause some blustery conditions too.

Crazy that some of the most exciting weather of the winter is potentially happening in April lol. Had a good windstorm, thunderstorms, dynamic 1 day heatwave and maybe even a little snow hopefully Sunday. All in the first 10 days of the month!

Almost like the mechanisms that produce cold airmasses in January and the ones that produce cold airmasses in April are completely different.

Yeah I wish every December could repeat 2008 and every January could repeat 2017 just as much as everyone else here, but really you're way more likely to see some kind of anomalous cold stretch over a given 180 day period than over a given 30 day period. Even if the result isn't as exciting.

Yeah, this pattern in January would be 500-1000' snow levels, possibly to sea level if the lows track right... But it's just cold onshore flow.

Lol, of course I’m gonna be in Hawaii next week and miss all the fun. Picked April over February so I wouldn’t miss any epic weather here. Figures!

Can I take your hotel reservation and flight?

That looks like a pretty decent C-zone north of Seattle.

Long range EPS goes nuclear with the +EPO again. Could be quite the stormy month, through and through.

The CZ is fizzling, so there likely won’t be any lightning here unfortunately. Light rain here now.

Trough axis swung through too late in the day, and things clouded up early. Temp gradient grew softer and instability waned. We try again tomorrow!

Been busy in the back yard. I'm not a professional landscape dude but for a first attempt it's looking pretty nice.
