Pretty insane to be sitting at 36.7 here before it's even dark.  Precip has ended after some wet snow, ice pellets, and rain.

37.8F, temp is dropping quite nicely. Just a few days ago it was in the upper 70s. Crazy stuff.

1984 is the only year I can think of with such an amazing crash and that year took longer.

Still snowing, temp down to 33.8.

I just shoveled the deck from the earlier hail/snow, this is stickage from just the last few minutes. And since I took this pic it’s already starting to stick to the trees now.

Incredible. Now finer flakes that are sticking a lot more easily. Incredible to have it snowing and 32 degrees on April 10th just a few days after it was 75 degrees.

Wow!  36 at Cannon Beach.  NW OR is going to get nailed.  The NWS has extended the winter weather advisory up to the Thurston / Pierce County line now.  Kind of bummed to be missing out on this for the most part.

It's kind of mind boggling that in the period of record we have never had this pattern in the NW this late...until now.  Some years were kind of in the ball park, but the details have never worked out like this with the possible exception of 1911.  The C-Zone snow in April 2008 was a totally different situation.

PDX discussion hinting at some slantwise convection in the metro area. That could mean some lightning embedded within.

Just last Fall we had some slantwise convection embedded within an atmospheric river, saw a couple lightning strikes right overhead.

Prepare to have fun, Portland :)

The last time there was thundersnow at PDX.....⚡

39 here cooling off quickly. Just rain here today…did have a mix late last night but so far that’s been about the only excitement.

Not sure if @Requiem is still living at that same location that’s 800’ or not. Would probably be a good time to be there.

It seems like extremes are becoming more common.    I still can't wrap my head around what happened last June.   This is the flip side of that... although less extreme.

Steve Pierce forecast:

** PORTLAND METRO SNOW TONIGHT **
Sunday 7:45pm

Believe it or not, snow levels will slowly drop overnight tonight as a strong system tracks just south of Portland. Models are in agreement that snow will slowly reach the metro area after 2am. As the rainfall rate increases, snow will drag down to the valley floor north of Salem, up through Longview/Kelso. South of Salem will likely remain just rain. You may want to get up a little earlier for tomorrow morning's commute if you live in the Portland metro area.

BOTTOM LINE --- Rain slowly changes over the snow in the hills first, after midnight. Then lowering to the valley floor before sunrise. Expect several hours of heavy, wet snow through approx. 9am, before the snow backs off, as the system moves to the east.

SNOW TOTALS --- Anywhere from trace to 2" on the valley floor, 3-4" possible in the hills above 500-700ft, 4-5" possible at locations above 1,000ft. The snow chances end after 10am Monday.

I am heading into the station now and will have a full forecast update tonight on KOIN 6 news at 10pm on the CW and 11pm on KOIN 6.

It just dawned on me that the lack of traffic on here from other than regularly posting members is a good indication not many people know what is about to happen in NW OR / SW WA.  I'm upping my guess for Portland to 4 to 6 inches.

Seems like no matter what pattern comes Mossman will score. Would not be surprised if that guy beats PDX.

It’s a glitch in the matrix I swear. further proof we live in a computer simulation.

Not in this case.  Usually there is something to explain it when he does well.  In this case the moisture just won't be there and convergence is off the table.

Indeed.  The timing is much faster than I would have expected.  A good part of the precip is probably going to fall as snow.

We could very well see some snow up here tonight too. Some of the models have precip making it into the south sound.
