It seems like extremes are becoming more common.    I still can't wrap my head around what happened last June.   This is the flip side of that... although less extreme.

The 1930s/40s also had a lot of extremes. IMO the current regime is most reminiscent of the late 1940s, if there’s any possible comparison out there.

Nope.   Might even buy a rental house or condo down here.   Make some money and have a getaway place.  Isle of Palms is simply a lovely place and a sure rental market.  Probably similar to the Georgia Islands you love so much.   At least until the next Hugo hits.   But what the hell... why not?   That might not happen for another 50-100 years and I won't be here to see it happen.  😀

Charleston is just a great city.    So relaxed and friendly and warm.

most of family is from there, we have a condo in Edisto Beach south of Charleston.  Headed to a wedding near there Memorial Day weekend.  love it, but hate the summer humidity.  we usually go back in mid/late October and it's nice if you can avoid Tropical weather.

Another big surprise tonight is the temp has been falling steadily here with only light precip falling.  Maybe we can eek out something here yet.

In coastal GA the humidity hangs around well into October. Dewpoints in the mid-70s can occur even into November.

Have always assumed it’s similar in coastal SC, but perhaps not.

Certainly looking very promising. Your temp still dropping steadily? I'm hoping the low won't come in far enough north to screw over southern areas.

Yep, actually dropping faster now. It will be very close, but it's April, so it's ok if it doesn't work out.

The east slopes with any kind of elevation are absolutely in the bullseye with this.

Looks like reports of heavy snow on I-5 near Stanwood. Not quite sea level there, but only a couple hundred feet.

So do I add this current snow total to the winter of 2021/2022 or do I get an early jump on the 2022/2023 totals?

Cold air damming and upsloping?

I'm several miles west of HIO which is still all rain, I'm not too far from the eastern slopes of the coast range but my elevation is low ~250 ft.  I'm currently 1-2F cooler than most of HIO. 35.0F and all snow here.

I'd imagine places like Forest Grove, especially 500 ft+ and Banks are gonna do very well tonight.

Yeah, the upslope with the maturing surface low will be a nice enhancer for what will be an event very dependent on precip intensity. No way we’ll see the uniformity the models show, but there should be some 6+ inch spots.

January 1949?

I can pull out monthly obs from eastern Oregon, Nevada and Utah that month that could pass for January in interior Alaska.

Winds are still out of the south here. Wonder if it'll shift to westerly?

The precip shield is a little further south than I would have expected.

Is Nelsen on vacation? This seems the type of crazy event he would have tweeted about.

Once he pulls his forks out he cannot comment on any snow events again until the next season.
