My weather app says it’s snowing heavily at PDX. But how is it actually looking down there? This is kinda nuts for this time of year, considering we were just in the mid-70s few days ago.

Wet snow near some of the favored upslope spots. The metro area is snow free thus far.

Stalled out around 34 here too. Just some mixed precip, steady, but fairly light. Low is coming in just a little to far north for us. That shortwave rolling through Tuesday AM could be decent.

Interesting temp profile. Definitely seeing the "Forest Grove Effect" in full swing. 39 at PDX, 32 at HIO.

Yeah, checking out the mesoscale models... Looks like the heart of the metro will switch over between 4-6am. Looks like the low will literally pass over us.

Up to an even 1" of precip on the day just before midnight. Temp has bumped up to 35.1 as the low approaches, should pass overhead in the next 3 hours.

Pretty insane we had a high temp of 24 here in December…coldest day in 30 years and then hit 106 the hottest day ever 6 months earlier all in the same year. Lytton BC hit 120 and a high temp of -5 (I think) in the same year nuts stuff!

Really has been a very dynamic stretch in the region since February 2021. And really even back to February 2019, even though 2019-20 was a fairly dumpy winter. Quite the ride.

Snow has reached most of Clark County now it appears. Should only be a matter of time for PDX folks.

This is really an amazing event. I can say that there's no real precedent back to the mid 19th century for such an organized snowstorm like this at this juncture of the season. Definitely has one of those surreal vibes to it like last summer, albeit obviously not on the same scale.

Right, and a pretty good Fraser River snow/cold event north of Seattle plus a fairly historic rainfall for the Puget Sound in mid December 2019. So not a total write-off for the region the way many of our crappy winters are.

The Labor Day wind and firestorms in 2020 also felt truly surreal, unprecedented, and massive. Along with June 2021. I think we'll be able to add this storm to the list as well for the areas now getting hit. That's 3 really historic events for NW OR and SW WA in a 19 month stretch, with plenty of other big events in the region around that.

I feel as though that 8+ inch bullseye somewhere in the Coast Range is bound to cause some pretty serious tree damage with all the trees leafed out and whatnot... really anywhere in the region that gets more than a couple inches this late in the season.

Will someone please fill me in on what the fcuk happened around here? What is up with ifred and also why are there so many admins and staff now? I'd like to see the damage for myself, so a link in the right direction would be appreciated.

I think PDX has a chance of setting a monthly record low max, as well. 42 is the number to beat. What's crazy is they'll probably have 2 or 3 cracks at it.

I'm up to 33.3F and the road slush is quickly melting. HIO just hit 34F and switched back to rain. hmmm.

Looks like the center of the low is gonna pass just south of SLE.

I feel like the real heavy stuff as the low passes directly to the south will be a bit more uniform as far as accumulations go for most of the metro.

Fred had a meltdown a few weeks back after he made what boiled down to one comment in the politics sandbox. A long time member threatened to walk over it which I assume was the trigger to step away.
