April 2022 (April 2008/2011 redux)

Mostly rain in a rain/snow mix here rapidly wiping out the snow. Looked like about 1-2" at 5 a.m when I got up to take a look. Roads all clear now.

Confirmed by the guy that purchased my last house, most snow on the ground since week of Christmas this morning in K-Falls. Winters don't usually operate quite like that.

Sounds like there's a flipside to more snow however. According to others still where I used to live, fewer summer time t'storms happen. When I was a kid they happened every year and sometimes even on a monthly basis from May-August. 

Or just could depend on location. I dunno. lol

1976 with 3.5", but they've definitely had more. Their snow stats are pretty hit and miss.

Thought you'd get much more in April. I have seen at least 2 Aprils in KF with 3" or more. 

Your Marches are 2-3x times what I'd get.

And the GFS shows another massive snowstorm for out here this weekend. Guess we're going to make a run for the snowiest April on record! 2009 holds the record with 46.9" in Bozeman.

Insane. All rain at home now and the ground is all clear. Just went 10 miles north for work and there is still some snow falling. Ground gets snowier the further north I go.

Pretty bizarre storm all the way around, beside the fact it’s April f*cking 11th.

Turns out we didn’t need to go truly isothermal in the post frontal air mass. I’m assuming the more convective, spring like aspect of the storm was a factor in that. In the “warm” sector where during the winter months we’d be feeding off cold low level offshore flow, most spots struggled mightily to get the lowest levels to cool effectively with what was little to no wet bulb help. Once the “cold” front moves through in the winter months, typically they mix out/warm in moderate onshore flow. In this case the column cooled very effectively in an almost freakish manner.

Most recent measurable in 1936.

Wouldn’t mind if the winter that followed repeated itself. Jan 1937 had an average high of 39.9 and a mean of 34.1 at Portland.
