Still, the stratospheric H2O anomaly is off the charts insane, so it’s conceivable that it produces an anomalous regional outcome this summer, in either direction.

The stratosphere was already screwy following the Australian fires and the Taal eruption between 2019-21, and this only makes it more complicated.

Brought this up a couple times in the March thread... but the eastern Mediterranean Basin had some pretty impressive cold anomalies this March. At one point I think places in southern Greece were getting sea level snow in mid-March.

With a Nina background state but expanded 4CH / Hadley Cell... something like 2012 seems pretty close. Tim's favorite summer!

The July-Sept period in 2012 was insanely nice.

Summer of 2021 was enough to break any weenie.

But seriously, that shortwave early Wednesday morning is giving me 4/20/2008 vibes. Thoughts?

12z EPS 15 day precipitation anomalies.

Would be very beneficial if this regime continued through the warm season.

Well... 50% of that fall was gorgeous.    Then it started raining on October 12th and basically rained every day for the rest of the year.

I wasn't living in the states at that time so I looked for Medford and looks like they had a trace. Funny enough that same year they had the 84F degree too.

Andrew and I have talked about it numerous times over the years.    It really was like turning on a faucet that year.    But it was gorgeous from July 1 - October 11 which is a very long stretch in the warm season so its right up there with my favorite summers of all time.   I don't really care that much what it does in November and December... its dark 70% of the day anyways.

In fairness to Tim, I remember it too. We went almost 3 months without rain down here, and then went through the end of December with non-stop rain. Winter of 2012-13 was pretty dull, though January was pretty cold due to epic inversions. Something we are probably overdue for.

Big improvement over what we had before though. Wet anomalies pretty much everywhere between Sacramento and the Oregon border, which is some of the most fire prone country in the lower 48 and also in some of the deepest drought right now.

Do you remember the incredible cold trough in early July though? We had a low of 34 on 7/3/12. Silver Falls set a record min/max for the day with a high of 59. Didn't set a record low at the park though. It was a rare cool/dry July here. Max for the month at the park was only 81, I think we hit 84 one day. Average high in the low 70s, just about perfect.

North Bend is way ahead of your area.   It was farther along than that 2 or 3 weeks ago.    I guess that is the advantage very little below freezing weather in the winter here.

I remember a spectacular 4th of July... it was sunny and in the low to mid 70s.    We had family in town and went to a parade in Carnation that morning (my sons were in the parade) and then spent the rest of the day in the yard playing games and BBQing.

That’s impressive considering your latitude and elevation. We’ve had a lot of strong winds and subfreezing weather this spring (including this morning), so it’s been a slow leaf-out.

Typical leaf-out is around April 1st, give or take a few days. So we’re ~ one week later than average at the moment.

I'll be in Sunriver for early July again... probably in Klamath Falls with some college friends on the Fourth. Might go hiking in the Lava Beds the day after. So basically guaranteed perfect summer weather.

Yeah... we just don't have the deep dormancy like other places at our latitude.    The spring green up happens way faster.

You're at about 39 degrees north, right? Of course geography makes all the difference. On the West Coast that would put you around Sacramento or the north Bay. Wild guess... you'd hate that climate.

This is one of the main reasons I want to move to Indiana. Family there and legit Arctic airmasses more often than here. And more reliably some 20"-30" of snow in a given winter around Indy where we would live.

New EPS weeklies are out.

Temp anomalies over the next 46 days are a dream come true. Cold across most of the CONUS, and warmer than average up in NE Canada. What’s the last time that happened? 😱

New EPS weeklies are out.

Temp anomalies over the next 46 days are a dream come true. Cold across most of the CONUS, and warmer than average up in NE Canada. What’s the last time that happened? 😱

Wonder which weekend Tim will go to Amarillo on.

I need to drive down to Stayton and let Link know he's unbanned...

He’s not unbanned. He needs help, not to post on endlessly about conspiracy theories and why five features “don’t work” because “the admins are Russian coverts.”

If y’all really want him back just let us know, but quite honestly he’s banned under what I percieve to be popular demand.

This is the current radar.  A little bit of snow along the Cascades and around Medford.  It shows a lot of snow in eastern Washington and the northern portion of eastern Oregon.  The snow continues throughout Idaho and Montana!  Nice! Also attached are some cams of the snow coming down in Oregon and Montana.

on one hand I don't miss the calling for genocide of his political opponents and posting youtube videos about chemtrails set to bad 90's graphics but on the other hand

Well... 50% of that fall was gorgeous.    Then it started raining on October 12th and basically rained every day for the rest of the year.

It was like that in Cannon Beach that year when I lived a block from the ocean but that's normal for them. Interesting it was like that elsewhere.
