Down to 35°F now, alongside SeaTac. We don't usually follow toe to toe with the airport for hours on end, because we're a low lying sheltered (relatively) inland valley, while SeaTac is up at 450' next to the Sound. It requires a special set of circumstances to do so; in this case clouds are shrouding my area and preventing things from decoupling, while SeaTac is clearing out better, in the process compensating for its topographic exposure.

Down to 32 already.  Color me totally impressed!  Hopefully this is a pattern we will repeat often over the next year.

This is a truly special pattern.  SEA is flirting with record lows this early in the evening.

Hanging onto the clouds here. This cold snap has been a bit disappointing in some regards, with clouds shrouding the cooling potential at night, only to be mixed away during the peak heating hours of the day. Much of that is normal meteorology of course, but still, disappointing. Under the clouds SeaTac has flatlined at 36°F so far tonight, same at my location.

Good points, but the cold snap isn't over yet.  Just looking at the 500mb pattern and persistently cold 850s this thing is a beast though.  Finally got a clear night here and the temp is reacting splendidly.

This airmass is about as good as it gets this time of year. Just unlucky so far.

Down to 33°F. SeaTac fluctuating but briefly hit 33°F as well.

Just one more degree and it'll be the first April freeze at KSEA since 2008. 31°F and it'll be the coldest April temperature recorded since 1976, when the mercury fell to 30°F on the 2nd.

At some point we’ll see a +MT/+dAAMt dampen this La Niña background state (which is normal..saw it in both 2011 and 2008, as well) but that process may actually perpetuate the cool pattern in the West as seasonal dynamics/relationships change quickly during the spring.

At the very least, it’s a much healthier and more stable -ENSO regime than last year. Possibly the most impressive since 1999. Going to be tough to climb out of this. And we probably won’t climb out of it...odds of a 3rd year -ENSO are increasing.

Larry Cosgrove has been catching alot of heat from people because he predicting neutral to weak El nino by late summer lol.

Down to 32°F here, things are freezing up under a starry sky. SeaTac holding at 35°F. They usually don’t decouple until later on anyways, so we’ll see what happens. Clouds are approaching slowly but steadily from the south.

Passed out early last night but we managed to fall to 32 before midnight. So 47/32 yesterday…and now 36 after a low of 32 this morning. 3rd freeze this month and the latest freeze I’ve ever recorded here in April. We only recorded 1 freeze in 2011 on 4/8.

SeaTac did indeed briefly touch 32F last night, making for the first April freeze since 2008! We try again tonight.

That's a great point, thank you. Only problem now is that I've got an appointment at 8am tomorrow morning.. lol.

My family is moving to Georgia in just a couple months, so this was our final winter in the beautiful PNW. After getting completely skunked earlier in the season we had resigned ourselves to no more snow (we are Floridian so we live for the snow). And then this happens. I feel awful for all the animals, though. I also hear local orchards have been impacted, which is horrible.

If you are from Florida, at least you know what you are getting yourself into moving to Georgia.  What part of the state are you moving to?  I grew up in and around Atlanta, and also spent some time in Athens and down near Valdosta.  I moved around ALOT when I lived there.

Got down to 30 last night, the snow (or even rain for that matter) just cannot seem to make it up here.  It would have been fun to have had April snow, but we had a good blast earlier this winter so I can't really complain.

For those who got missed out this past winter and are getting snow now, I leave you this:

Had snow falling with a temperature of 6F this morning. Don't think I've ever seen that before in April!

Haven't been above freezing since Sunday afternoon (midnight high of 24F yesterday) and that looks to continue until Saturday afternoon. Decent chance we drop below zero tonight with clearing skies which will cement this cold snap as the season latest for cold on record.

Currently all the way up to 10F!

Had a semi get stuck on the road at the end of my driveway overnight... He's still stuck down there, just went down and took him some coffee, now working on calling his boss to let them know he's alright. He got sent up here to pick something up at the farm at the end of our road and thought he was lost after his GPS went out... Unfortunately when he stopped to get his bearings around 9pm that was around the time it started snowing heavily. He only had about 1/2 of a mile to his destination too...
