April 2022 (April 2008/2011 redux)

Feels like I am getting a little sunburned out there... and it has not even been totally sunny here.    Sun angle right now is 55 degrees here.   Sun angle was only 47 degrees in Hawaii when we were there in December and we came home very tan... so obviously its high enough here at this point.

North wind there?     Its 63 now in North Bend... and we still have some puffy clouds floating around.

West wind here. 59 now should hit 60 soon. Very nice day and it does feel pretty warm compared to recent weather…but still just average late April weather.

Yeah... just about perfectly normal.   No wind at all here so it feels quite warm.

I can already tell I’m gonna struggle to acclimate this year. Some years my body is more responsive than others, not sure why.

Was sweating buckets outside today and it was only in the upper 70s. That’s a BAD sign.

Dewpoints in the 50s too. That is far from oppressive.

As you can tell by pics... we are WAY ahead of that.     The forest canopy is green now out here.

Suns trying to come out. Think we will fully clear out by noon. Will be nice to get decent weather this weekend before it gets wet again.

Pretty good call. I went out and walked around Manchester State Park this morning. Cloudy out there when I left to come home but mostly sunny when I got back to Tacoma around noon.

Took this pic earlier of our cottonwoods while shoveling dirt from my pile on the side of the road.    The tree on the far right is our big leaf maple which is always the last tree in the yard to finish fully leafing out ... but its worth the wait!

Well... you have to remember Jim is out there each night stripping the new leaves that emerged that day.   Perpetual winter in his neighborhood.   😀

If the month ended today we would be an average temp of 45.5…could see us finishing the month around 2-3 degrees below normal. Pretty decent negative departure. December 2021 was -2.1 and February 2019 was -7.1 lol.

A day late on this one, but memory from 10 years ago on facebook. For April a really impressive # of CG strikes.

It hit 80 degrees in K-Falls on 4/23/2012 and a t'storm outbreak pretty much went around the basin from 3 directions.

Pretty sure the average high in April at PDX is above 60, in fact the 67/37 at SLE yesterday was a -1 departure. Goes to Justin’s point that even cooler and wetter than normal isn’t that bad most of the time by late April.

Also what’s up with how much wetter the euro is compared to the gfs?

Yeah... the differences between the GFS and the ECMWF lately is pretty interesting.    I assume the ECMWF will be right as usual.
