I have to take the tractor up the side of the house by the propane tank which is pure mud when raining. My plan is to gravel that stretch since grass will not grow due to thick tree cover but haven’t gotten that far. The mud then gets into the tread of the tractor tires and leaves a hell of a mess in the driveway. On dry days it’s a non issue. First world problems I know.

Gotcha, little point in doing work that leads to extra work. I usually just hose down the walkway after spring cleanup since it’s impossible to avoid it getting covered in mud.

Yeah that almost certainly isn’t happening.

In fact this is the first year I can remember without any “spring barrier” issues in seasonal guidance. Mostly because the system state is so deeply entrenched in its La Niña state. Usually ENSO weakens during the warm season, but might not be the case this year.

Which begins the question of what exackly  Larry is seeing to lead him to beleave a weak El nino and I'm a cosgrove fan but his line of thinking is confusing giving the Data.nothing against the guy a great respected forecaster just would like to see what he seeing.

It’s the gravel driveway that I would leave trails of mud on…It makes me twitchy leaving mud tracks on it and it’s not easy to hose off.
Again…Massive first world problems! 🤣

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Yesterday I was going to run home early and haul more dirt and mulch to my garden but it started pouring around 3pm or so…Had the same thought today as it’s been halfway decent, but the radar looks just like it did yesterday so I’m not going to bother.

I predict this post gets at least 5 wieners slapped on it! Maybe more!!

Hail reports with that squall approaching Tim.

No hail here.   About 10 minutes of heavy rain and now the sun is coming back out.

I brought up the 1998-2001 (1999 in particular) because it also stayed strong through the summer, and was a 3+ year event.

Both 2008 and 2011 pulled back during the summer months. They still had a La Niña element to their respective low frequency states, but it was weaker.

The 1998-2001 period SUCKED for winter weather here.

Not nearly. It was a very cold arctic blast. Pretty dry. Some places got a couple inches of snow.

1998-99 was a good winter. Extremely cold airmass in December and incredible amounts of mountain snow. We can do better in the lowlands but I wouldn't mind a repeat at all.

Unfortunately it was the last good winter until 2003-04. Coldest temp at PDX during that entire span between them was 24F.

I don’t know if this picture properly conveys the enormous scale, but a beastly CZ is about to rip through from the west. Tall bugger.

Kinda hard to tell, but it almost looks like it has some weak rotation on its south end. Probably too far north for me though.

It’s being backed up from the bottom. In fact the most primed area for hail and lightning is from DT up to Lynwood. This thing is a beauty from the ground here. Classic backing flow/CZ dynamics for thunderstorms over Seattle.

That cell north of Everett is also looking pretty strong.

Here's what will look like here... ;)

Not that I won't take the rain and cool weather! It's just that you might be projecting your east coast-esque expectation of exciting, convection laden frontal passages onto the PNW, which are pretty much always completely stratoform in nature barring rare exceptions.

Yes, I fully expect enough wieners on this post to open a hot dog parlor.
