We finally did it - we finally got a new house!! We had to pretty much sacrifice our first born child in order to get it but still, we got it! 4 bed/3 bath, 2200 sq ft for roughly $400k. Best elementary school in the city is literally right down the street around the corner. It's also open to corn fields in the back so you best believe I'm going to grab an IP camera and put it up for time lapse videos like @Jginmartini (love your videos dude!) as we don't really have anything blocking our view besides a farm house.

Redfin recently notified me of a house that sold a few doors down from our old house in Maple Valley. 3 bed/2 bath, 1300 sq ft. Listed for $625k and sold for $730k. Freaking insane! So glad we made the jump over here and are able to get a house almost twice the size for only $10k more than we spent on our old home.

Should be moving in by the end of May/early June. We are so excited!!

Congrats!  Looking forward to those timelapse videos!

April 1893 is probably always going to be the gold standard for cold Aprils here locally.

Downtown Portland had a maximum of 62 that month, and only two days the entire month that exceeded 56 there. About as chilly as a lot of our 21st century Januaries. No major airmasses, just a steady and raw chill throughout the month. Of course 1892-93 was a pretty amazing winter also.

Pretty cold. I'm used to crummy springs. The vast majority are cool and showery in Spokane. Every now and then you get a warm one like 1992 or 2016.

Looks like our monthly mean is 41.9 as of today. The park was 39.9 in 2011, the park station is heavily shaded and runs a little cooler than us, but I doubt they are running colder than 2011. Looks like 2008 was 40.3. Looks like 1975 was 41.5, my guess is the park ends up around 41.0 this month.

Looking at the PRISM data back to 1892 here are the top 5 cold April's here. Will be interesting to see where this year comes in.

1) 2008

2) 2011

3) 1955

4) 1975

5) 1967

Top 5 warm April's

1) 1926

2) 1934

3) 1906

4) 1989

5) 1990, 1939, 1915

The top 4 all make sense. Every one of them was a la niña. I bet 1966-67 was a la niña.

KGEG flirting with Coldest April on record according to local news last night.  not sure specifics.  need to look into it

1955 had a mean of 40.6. 2011 had a mean of 41.5. 2008 had a mean of 42. 1975 had a mean of 41.6. Spokane is at 41.7 through yesterday. Top 5 is possible.

What was 1980 like out there? That year keeps popping up in the z500 pattern analogs and has been for a few months now.

I must have blocked 2011 from my memory since I do not remember how miserable it was. Probably what I will do in 2033 looking back at this month.

Geez... My house has tripled in value since I bought it in 2011, still a lot cheaper than your area.

Tacoma is still a couple notches down from King County but it’s seriously crazy everywhere. Tripling in value in 11 years is pretty nuts, although you bought near the bottom of the bursted housing bubble.

I predict this post gets at least 5 wieners slapped on it! Maybe more!!

I gave you that fifth wiener just as you predicted. 😉  I didn't want you to be wrong.  But you are right, today is just like yesterday.  Partly sunny in some area and thick n' cloudy in others!

I think the biggest risk for me would be the lack of 4wd/awd.  I get around Bellingham just fine, but it looks like parts of his trip were no joke in terms of icy roads.  Maybe if I went with studded tires.  I'm not gonna lie, I am kinda mulling it over.  In all reality though, It's a stretch for my 6'3" 275# frame to sleep in the back, add in 2-3 weeks of supplies/winter gear, and its probably a bit much.

He was somewhat nuts for doing it in the winter. I was assuming you would do it in the summer, like most do.

Makes sense since 1904 was a clean and quick El Niño transition summer. 🔥 🥵 Those are almost always warm/dry in the west due the increase in west-central Pacific convection.

Will probably get one like that in 2023 or 2024.

April 1904 is certainly a great match here locally. We had an 89 degree heat wave that year at the same exact time we were having a 7" snowstorm this year.

I would want to be able to catch the northern lights, so I would have to do it in the spring or fall.  I wouldn't mind getting in on that winter action though 😁⛄

Also, it gets pretty messy up there in the spring according to my buddy that works on the north slope

Average temp for March was 47.0…April is still at 46.2 currently. We’re already wetter than March so far this month and very likely we finish colder.
We will see how May goes. My best guess is it won’t be nearly as anomalous. I think it’ll be a slightly wetter than normal month…which is probably not a bad bet considering the models are showing us getting consistent precip chances in the first week. I think the month will end with close to average temps.

Tacoma WA elevation 300’

Monthly rainfall-3.56”

Warm season rainfall-11.14”

Max temp-88

+85 highs-2

+90 highs-0
