Interestingly, it looks like SEA (through yesterday 4/15) is having the most anomalous April so far out of the major I-5 stations (based on average temperature departure). I wonder if this is somehow related to the warmer 1991-2020 norms or some other weather factor (like maybe increased convection in that area?).

BLI: -2.9F
PAE: -2.6F
SEA: -4.8F
OLM: -3.9F

PDX: -3.5F
SLE: -3.1F
EUG: -3.0F
MFR: -3.3F

If you compare the anomalies for last week Seattle’s anomaly was just barely cooler than SLE. Either way the cold this month has been pretty evenly distributed with no real noticeable N/S gradient.

Well its been one wild stretch of weather…seems like we’re kinda getting back to normal as of today. We’ve had heat, cold, wind, thunder, hail and snow all in the last couple weeks. Now back to our regularly scheduled spring weather.

I seriously doubt temperatures have caused any damage to native vegetation. Think the 4”+ of wet snow on leafed out deciduous trees in SW WA causing collapsed branches is the main concern as far as vegetation goes. Kind of like the Feb 2021 ice storm.

I highly doubt the tree damage is anywhere comparable to what happened in February 2021. The damage from the ice storm is probably difficult for people who didn’t witness it to understand. It took weeks to get power back to thousands of people... Two weeks out here, and we got ours back before a lot of people.

Happy Easter! I just got caught hiding easter eggs in the house by my 8yr old daughter. (My dog is the reason I cannot do it the night before since he likes to chew up all things plasticy and kid related) Anyway I hear her coming down the stairs so I quickly throw the eggs in my hands into my sweatshirt pocket, she rounds the corner and asks me what I’m doing, and in the moment I reverted back to my childhood and responded back saying “nothin” errr “taking care of the dogs, why don’t you go back to sleep for a bit” then said dog jumps up on me (I swear he was ratting me out) and one of the eggs go flying out of my pocket…Moment of silence followed by me saying (turning the tables back onto said dog) that Onyx (our dog) watched the easter bunny hiding the eggs early this morning and grabbed one so I had taken it from him (take that Onyx joke is on you) She at least pretended to buy my story. 🤷‍♂️So yeah so far today I have managed to most likely teach my kid that not only does the easter bunny not exist but also lying is okay! She is getting to about that age where she is going to find out the truth anyway but we are trying to keep the magic alive as long as possible lol, plus we still have our 3 year so we have a few years yet! 😀

36 and freaking cold outside. Hid some out there as well.

I learned at an early age that Santa was make believe as well, but that sure ruined the fun of the surprise I bet ;)

I was 5 or so when I started catching on to some of those truths.

43 and sunny this morning here in Bellingham.    It was cloudy all night which kept the temp up and then it cleared at dawn... perfect timing.    Should be a lovely Easter Sunday.    Looks like it already sunny at home too.

I also hid eggs in the yard here... even though my daughter is aware of the situation and just plays along.    I told she has to wait until at least 10 to go find them so it's warmer out there.  😀

Loving the -NAO across guidance for week-2. Keeps the country cool/wet, which is exactly what everyone needs.

Everyone?   The eastern half of the country definitely does not need to be wet and cold.  Nor does WA.   My family in Minnesota and Wisconsin are dying for even one warm day.   I will set up a conference call and you can tell them how important it is that it keeps snowing and stays freezing cold there.    😀

It's funny because it seems like you say this about your family out there every year. And Bellingham could use some rain. Most of their water year surplus is from November when it just washed out to see.

Uh, 4 of the last 5 days were in the 80s here and we fell just short of 90°F last Wednesday. Not to mention soils are the driest they’ve been since 2012 for this date..mowers are kicking up large clouds of dust.

Cool/wet weather is absolutely needed here.

Yeah... you should see my Facebook feed of family and friends from the Midwest.   You should talk to them.    You think they are cheering for it to stay winter?   It's going to snow there again today.   Human nature to want it to warm up as we approach May.   Seems universal except for a few people on here who act like everyone in the country is afraid of spring and summer.  😀

Great.

But the entire country does not need to be wet and cold forever.    That is just you projecting.

Being used to it does not mean you like it. Its human nature to want it to warm up and stop snowing when the daylight is approaching 14 hours a day.    Seems sort of obvious.

This month is running colder than March so far which is pretty hard to do. We’ve had 9 mornings 36 degrees or lower in April and 3 freezes. We only had 5 lows 36 or lower and just one freeze in March.

Why do you project yourself onto everyone.

I was thinking last night about how pointless it is discussing anything with you and Jim. You are both incapable of seeing different perspectives or digesting information that does not fit your narrative. For you, "everyone" likes sunny and warm, for Jim the event is always more impressive in his backyard. I guess I have in common with Jesse the need to try and set the record straight so I end up trying to have discussions with brick walls.

I definitely know that people have different preferences and that is cool.  I just speak up when Phil acts like "everyone" wants and needs it to stay cold and wet and snowy... that is projecting.

Let's not forget March was fairly mild, slightly above average temps and slightly below normal rain.

Just finished up our March stats. Ran very mild in terms of overnight lows. We already have 9 sub-freezing lows in April, and month to date we are running about 3.5F colder...

Max: 64

Min: 25

Avg Max: 50.5 (-0.8)

Avg Min: 37.5 (+4.7)

Mean: 44.0 (+1.9)

March 2021 had to be cooler. I remember that month matching a typical January's average low temperature at KLMT.

But dry though.

I think if we have a spring 2010-2012 type period over the next few years you will be moving to the TRI CITIES of PASCO, KENNEWICK, and RICHLAND.

Moving?  No.   That is silly.

But we are actively looking to buy a vacation rental property in Hawaii or maybe Isle of Palms in South Carolina.   Regardless of spring weather here.  ;)
