April 10th - 15th Extremely dynamic storm system

Recommended Posts

It's like the instability just about dies in the northeastern corner of KY in a lot of these events. But locations directly to my south look to be still getting a t'storm.

The wind is here. Have a few gusts 20-30 mph, but no lightning.

The timing of these fronts has been insanely unlucky for your area. I think they’ve basically all been nocturnal passages, with pre-frontal stratiform rain damping instability.

Good news is the timing thing will work itself out eventually. And instability won’t be an issue much longer.

You’ll know you’re in for a big severe day when it’s sunny during the midday hours, ahead of an afternoon/evening shortwave or frontal system. Those are the ones that nail your area.

Severe chances seem pretty low here tomorrow as well. Afternoon frontal passage but the instability just isn’t there, and downsloping flow will dry the BL/delay convective initiation.

Probably end up with a thin line of showers and a 40mph gust front rolling down the mountains. Hope I’m wrong.

Minot, ND takes the cake for the jackzone...30" reported at 10:30pm last night and it was still snowing...this has been a historic blizzard for those up north!  It appears that nearly 3/4's of the state literally got socked with 10"+ of snow and blizzard conditions the past couple days.  Both Incredible and Fascinating.

And the most we could get for a storm was 2” and a total of 12” for the season.

I got good news about the extremely dry situation in Nebraska, I'll mention you in a different post, in a different forum.

Yup, as expected, little to no precip (let alone thunder, ha). Just a surge of wind rolling down the mountains.

Looks like ~ 45mph on velocity, so basically a typical spring cool front. Hopefully the next system is more exciting out this way.

Tornado damage is being surveyed in parts of Kentucky. I thought that was a little too quiet on the tornado reports considering the line that went through.

Just took this in Rogers. Feels every bit like winter outside with a single digit wind chill and blowing snow. Heavy snow fell earlier.

Looks like the fast start to Autumn they had up north!  Haha....geeze, what an unusual wx pattern we are experiencing.  Our Sub Forum is so far reaching we get to read and hear so many wide range of wx reporting is quite fascinating.  Don't worry, it'll feel like summer the following weekend up your way when a massive ridge builds in the center of the nation.

It appears that we may have a rare Tornado Emergency bust, but it's better be safe than sorry, it's easier to take the blame for a warning for a tornado that was weak than nothing at all for a Tornadic Supercell (Unless it happened very quickly and without any prior warning signs)

Another thing to note is that the storm was in a nasty radar hole.

Btw, Minot's final storm total is 36". They average 51.8" of snowfall per season.

I read a story on this storm where  a small herd of thoroughbred horses were trapped at their barn covered with snow and ice.
The 1 miniature pony couldn’t make it through the 3’ drifts and the others trampled down a  path to save their friend.
Owner wasn’t sure is all the horses would be healthy.  It was a wait and see deal.   I saw a similar snow in New Zealand in around mid 1990’s where “townies” came out to save the flocks of sheep.

NO tornado has been confirmed in Northern Arkansas, I'm confused. It's possible that one existed, but it's evidence was wiped by the extremely intense wind and hail.

It's hard to flip cars and destroy portable buildings with just plain wind gusts IMO.

Apparently, the cars rolled because they lost control due to the amount of hail on the roadways

A spotter was still there and they had confirmation of a tornado on ground.

Somebody reported a "wedge" so again that kind of wording wouldn't be on the SPC if they couldn't confirm a tornado.

NWS confirmed no tornado. Damage from straight line winds and big hail.

Thanks for sharing that. Occasionally the best of us are proven wrong.

This is also a good example that not all supercells can produce tornadoes. I've heard of some HP's over the years that are massive hailers but I guess their wall clouds just don't have enough organization.
