Ah bro that MSC is so close to you. Will my graze or hit?

There is a good light show to my WNW going on right now. Mark it on the calendar, my first frequent lightning of the year.

Something will have to form south of that to hit my area.

That back flank is trying to dive SE a bit. If it survives it could graze you.

I'm hearing the one north of me. It sounds closer than it looks on radar (can elevated lightning be heard farther?).

Back end does look to be stretching south a little.

I think atmospheric conditions can affect how efficiently the sound of thunder travels. I’ve noticed nighttime thunder seems to propagate better, possibly due to the nocturnal inversion. I think it’s called “ducting” thunder. And that s**t gets super loud when the lightning is close.

Well here in Southeast Iowa  we are marching towards  the driest May in my 15 yrs here! We are sitting at .90  but  most of that fell first few days! Basically  over 2 weeks and no significant  rain is rare here in May. I had come to trust May for  weekly rain more than all other months. Theres still some  moisture  few inches down. But seeds and plants are beginning  to show stress!  We have been watering  the garden for  10 days now.  These wild swings in precip in midwest  drive me crazy!   Ive researched it and the bermuda triangle of Ottumwa  Kirksville  to Peoria  has the  most extreme  swings in precip as anywhere in midwest.

Hang in there, the 0z Euro along with the other modeling are suggesting a good chance that your region will get a darn good soaking.  I'm liking the SLOW movement of the "cutter" next week thru the MW.  Reminds of a few storms we tracked during the winter.  While it will bring some dreary and depressing weather around here for a few days, I'll welcome the precip.

0z EPS...looks like a precip map we've seen all to common since last Autumn...

After this storm departs, I'm really liking the trends for Memorial Day Weekend for literally the entire Sub.  It appears we all will have at least a couple days of dry weather and very comfortable temps.  This is about as perfect timing as one can ask for!  I would say that most of us on here will appreciate it after the kinda Spring wx we have been dealt.

Wow check out the snowfall amounts forecasted for the Colorado Rockies, I'm sure the moisture is welcome but this will cause extensive tree damage.  Could be the largest late season snowfall in Denvers history.

No snow here thank goodness but Saturday night looks damp and chilly.

I’m in the Severe Drought region currently but expect to see Extreme before the summer is over.
We’ll get a reprieve from the heat the next few days. Maybe a little rain but not what we need till mid week next week   Likely we’ll see some real rain next week

The official H/L yesterday at Grand Rapids was 75/51, officially 0.01" of rain was reported. The overnight low in MBY was 61 and the official overnight low at GRR was 62. At the current time it is sunny and 69 here at my house. The forecasted high today is 85. That would a top ten warmest for this date the record high of 92 set in 1977 looks very safe it was 90 on this date in 2012 and just last year the high reached 88. It looks like the best chance for storms has now moved to the north of our area.

Models are trending toward a cool soaker lifting through my area next Tue/Wed.  We can certainly use the rain, but all we are able to get this spring is cold rain.  When we warm up, we become capped.

First heatwave of the summer a cometh. Low 90s likely tomorrow, while upper 90s to near 100°F are possible over the weekend.

Unfortunately convection looks capped/confined mostly to the high terrain. Sucks.

At least until sunday then chances start to go up as we break down the heat.

91/64 today, and a couple t'storms on the day (well, midnight-8am anyway).

Tonight should be a little bit more on the stuffy side. I think I'll start logging how many days this year hits 90 degrees. Hopefully Ashland is the cooler location when it comes to these stats.

Temp refusing to drop tonight. Stuck in the low/mid 80s as of 210AM. It was actually cooler at sunset.

Looks like tomorrow may get off to a head start as a result of the warm/mixed BL. Upper 90s?

There was some wild storm up in Gaylord yesterday afternoon. The last news was 1 dead and 44 injured. And of course a lot of damage. For many of us who travel up north we have stopped in Gaylord on the way up or down. I stop there many times on our way to and back from Alpena.  I would expect that M 32 is closed in Gaylord for the time being. Not sure where the snowman cam is in Gaylord but there looks to have been something blown there not sure where it came from and not sure how long it will be in the picture.

The official H/L at Grand Rapids yesterday was 86/61, at Lansing it was 88/67 and at Muskegon it was 83/60. It was still 83 at Lansing last night at 11 PM and still 76 at midnight so at Lansing todays high will be in the mid 70's while here in GR it will only be in the mid 60's That is one of the reasons that it has appeared that Lansing has been warmer compared to average than Grand Rapids this year with cold fronts coming thru before midnight so many times this year.

I recorded 0.36" of rain in the overnight thunderstorm and at GRR the official amount was 0.33" The overnight low here at my house was 58. At the current time it is still 58 and cloudy.

I guess we cooled down more than I thought, it was upper 60's here when you posted that.

Today has become much nicer than expected.  All week today was expected to be cloudy, showery, and stuck in the 50s (even low 50s on some models).  Instead, the rain has missed well east, the cloud shield has almost totally cleared, and we are in the low 60s.

It has been rated DF3. The 1956 Hudsonville-Standale-Walker tornado here in Grand Rapids and the 1953 Coldwater Rd storms in Fling were rated EF5 and the 1965 storm here in Grand Rapids was EF4. Not sure what the 1967 storm near 28st was rated

Good thunderstorm! A few really close flashes and bangs, one shook the place.

I was having dinner in the middle of it, otherwise I would have pulled out the camera.
