Checking in on the wet PNW!
1.32 for the month and currently 50*

I’m currently situated in Montrose Colorado….never heard of the place or the Black Canyon of Gunnison National Park.  So I went!
Photographs do not capture the sheer depth of this canyon! Yikes

71* currently and sunburn a bit 😁

Also note, the last photo shows the east side of the canyon with 93 degree    slope while the opposing slope much less.  This is stuff I never think about or even observe…. East slope gets the sun so the weathering effect is less then on the west slope in the shade.   More build up of snow and ice…melting and refreezing causing the erosion. Fascinating stuff

My grass was starting to turn brown a bit this afternoon when it stopped raining for 20 minutes.  Thank god it didn't last for long.

Way too many dry periods this weekend.    Your grass is toast.

Alas, I have crazier stories, but you are totally correct- no one should have to deal with kind of violence and carnage. I am incredibly grateful to have made it out in decent working order.

Had some convection to my west. Saw lightning in the distance to my west when driving home from grocery shopping in Idaho. Heard two rolls of thunder here after I got home too but that was it.

Just a day after moving in to our current place four years ago today. The long grass had to go! So glad we were not having this current weather then.

Still the cloudiest climate in the country in April/May.

Same as New York and all of New England and West Virginia.    The difference between Seattle your location is 10%.     You are really stretching here.  😃

That’s a very small part of the country. Western WA is definitely among the cloudiest climates in the country.

I don’t think this debatable, friend. :)

So what?   Lots of people live in New York and New England.    And 10% difference between Seattle and DC is a big deal?

Seattle is drier than almost everywhere east of the Rockies in the summer when daylight is long.    And Seattle averages 200+ days a year without rain.

Our reputation comes from the winter months and its definitely earned... but the daylight is short for everyone at that time of year and its much more green and lush here in the winter than any place east of here across the northern and central US.   So there are benefits here as well.

Western WA and the NH mountains take the jackpot.

Do you know where Seattle is located on a map?    The part of WA that is the dark shade of gray is the Olympic Peninsula and WA coast.     There is a massive difference between that area and the Seattle area.     Those are mountains that block a good deal of rain and create an entirely different climate.     Seattle is on par with a huge part of the Midwest and NE.

Western-WA is cloudier than the majority of the country 10 out of 12 months in the year. Lowest annual UV index of anywhere else in the lower-48.

It’s a very cloudy climate. That’s just a fact.

I read somewhere a while back that we average about 200+ days of cloud a year. And a lot of drizzle that don’t amount to anything so it’s basically dry. As you said, our rain typically comes during Oct-Jan months

The cutoff is arbitrary. The threshold is right at 70%. It’s more like 60% on the east coast and Midwest.
