Looking like a nice shot of late season snow for the Cascades tonight through Monday. Some padding to the seasonal totals and should help make up for the very dry and sunny mid January through mid February period up there this year

We were talking about Seattle of course.   Started with the article about Seattle.   And my contention is that Seattle does get a bad rap in terms of clouds and rain on a national level and that was a good example.

And since you want to talk about here... there mitigating factors.   A significant factor is east wind and offshore flow which is really one of our climate defining aspects.  There are periods in the cold season that end up much sunnier out here than in Seattle.    And we are away from the water which in the summer can mean more sun than Seattle in certain patterns.    Overall... definitely more cloudy out here though and particularly with spring troughs.

North Bend vegetation leafs out at roughly the same pace as Seattle... that is fact.   We are a few days behind North Bend.

And leaf out does begin in earnest in March in most years.   Also a fact.

SEA is at 1.08 for this event now.   Very impressive.     Looks like SEA is now above normal for rainfall for the month of May.

About the same at the station near my house in the last 24 hours... 1.19 inches.

You know what else loves this climate? How about this torrid field of Galerina Autumnalis’ in Sandpoint… Also known as ‘Funeral Bells’. 😬 This is only a small view of a field of hundreds upon hundreds of them. Also not pictured are a couple highly toxic Amanita species. Guess it’s that time of year for mother nature to try and poison everything.

Would really like to see us get to 4” of rain this month. Most rainfall I’ve recorded in May is 3.98” in 2014. Over halfway there now. Euro shows about an inch of rain over the next 10 days so above average is guaranteed at this point.

Why stop at 4"?  Let's go for 10" and set some new records.

We've had some dry warm springs in the recent past so I guess this is the flip side of the coin this year.

I do not believe for one minute this will have any impact on any drought situation or wild fire disasters up and down the West Coast.

When this period of wetter than normal passes the environmentalist loonies will be back in full voice yammering on about the lack of rainfall and "oh my god" the fires.

Bruh I didn’t say anything about a drought…just like seeing records break there’s no drought here. I get it your grapes and garden are dying none of us can control it.

The drought and fire comment was not aimed at you but you know those folks are lurking and the first sign of a dry pattern and a forest fire and they will be on here like sky screamers.

Could end up being one of the snowiest April/May combos on record for much of the Oregon/WA Cascades. I know Mount Baker had record snowfall with like 140" for April and I find it hard to imagine that it also wasn't close to record for the Oregon Cascades as well. And May has been remarkable as well.

Reality is that the worst is probably over now... we have gone through a long stretch of very persistent rain and unusually cold weather and there is only 3 weeks left of this Nina spring.   There will be more to come this month and certainly in June but the odds are pretty good that we are going have a decent run after that... like in almost all Nina years.   And then hopefully some serious cold and snowy fun this coming winter.   And obviously the odds are very high that we transition out of this 3-year Nina period after that.  👍

The next 4 days look more like typical spring troughing... partly sunny across the area and the rain will be much more scattered.

Bingo. Grateful for this cool and wet stretch but it hasn't been as cold and wet relative to normal as other areas in the PNW.

We just had our first cooler and wetter than normal month in a long-a$$ time. I don't even remember the last time it happened before this April that just finished.
