Yup. Esp in winter when we would be like 55F and PDX below freezing all day.

Basically the 5 going on 6 years without a sub-freezing high is fuckking insane and depressing the more I look at the stat.

We were reviewing January 1956 the other day, that one would have been tough in EUG. Major snow event for PDX and SLE, NADA for EUG.

Assuming the 53 or 54 holds, today should end up PDX’s coldest high this late in the season since....2013

51/40 spread here with light rain in the morning giving way to scattered heavy showers and limited sunbreaks. Chilly day.

So a neighbor posted a FB memory the other day from May 5, 2010, it looks like it snowed about an inch here that day. Looks like Silver Falls was 45/32 that day.

I think of Leavenworth has having a much more gentle climate than Bozeman.   And I think it's much lower than your location.   Good combo there of consistent snow and reliably long warm season.

True…Our added elevation is likely the key and being more susceptible to late season cold/snow.

Also was a big anafront over SW OR earlier that month. Roseburg got 8" and Cottage Grove over 6". Eugene area was kind of on the northern fringes of it, though.

-15F departure for Medford, Oregon today with a 50/38 spread. Same spread for for Roseburg which put up a -14 departure.

Biggest departure I could find in the area covered by NWS Medford was 19 degrees below the daily average in Montague, CA. That included a record low of 24 which beat the previous record of 27. Mount Shasta City also had a record low with their 27 beating the previous record of 29.

In terms of precip for May…the last few years have been boom or bust it seems here. There’s been some dry ones and some wet ones. Temps have been the main thing that’s changed since 2013.

Beat me to it. Although the high of 39 in Klamath Falls is a -26 departure.

Lakeview and Sunriver also ended up with highs of 39.

Would like to be able to pull of a significantly cold low out of this pattern somehow. Coldest low I’ve recorded in May was 37 on 5/1/13.

The temps have been ugly.  I've only had two that were normalish in that time frame.  All other have torched.  That makes this one seem even more extraordinary than it otherwise would have.

You did a lot better than PDX area for snow in December 2021 I think. Think that made up nicely for missing out in February 2021. But Olympia northward has definitely been ground zero for most events in the past five winters, sans late February 2019.

There were widespread -15 to -20 departures to your south today

Your daily departure was about the same as SEA’s

At least SEA got up to 55 today with a fair amount of sunshine.   PDX only managed 52 with very little sun.   It was a nicer day around the Sound.
