Who's in the purple area in Oregon?

Santiam Pass and McKenzie Pass over the Belknap Gap, which can see spillover of Arctic air down the McKenzie River valley in CCG mountain wave events like Feb 2014.

It would have been very nice to not hit 115... or even 100 for that matter.

Looking at the month to date departures in S. Oregon. They are very impressive. -7.4F at K-Falls, -5.6F at Medford.

Oh... I definitely understand it could be much worse!

Typical winter weather here is rain on most days while its cold and snowing there.    So it actually is winter-like for all of us.  🙁

Yeah the NE winds associated with the weekend ULL really cooled the waters over the continental shelf. Our marine layer has been overperforming as a result.

Might help us a bit over the next few weeks, but those waters (and those of the Chesapeake) are very shallow and will be quickly warmed by insolation and S/SW winds over the coming weeks. Seen this play out too many times.

oh wow I guess I haven’t really been paying attention to the temp, I guess it *is* pretty chilly…and it was so nice yesterday.  We almost sat outside to eat dinner at Sidewall pizza.

One station near me is reporting 32 and another is reporting 36.

You are being way too literal lately.    Taking a cue from Chris?   😃

I think the vast majority of people in the PNW would say that this spring has felt like a continuation of winter.

Hood Basin snowpack now 205% of median. Keep in mind this is median, not mean, however.

Could see Willamette Basin break 200% as well in the next couple days. They’re at 186% and adding more snowpack today. In addition by tomorrow every basin in Oregon should be over 100% of median.

A straight up climo spring next year would be a massive improvement... and a major let down for those who think this is just normal.   👍

Agreed, I am ready for some neutral or el nino patterns that will produce a climo setup at least. As much as I love snow I am starting to despise cold spells in late spring more.  2020 had an average high of 70.8 with 14 days above 70 in May plus only 0.12in of rain, so here is hoping for 2023!

That's completely absurd. Nearly Noon in mid-May and it's almost snowing on the Coast.

This station at 700 feet North of Forks is down to 34 so the snow level out there is almost certainly under 1,000 feet.

We're going to start seeing some wildly high numbers though as median snow depth starts to get pretty small and the snow depth remains relatively high. Especially for the low elevations we're getting to a point where percentage doesn't mean much.

The Blazed Alder station at 3,600' on the northwest side of Hood is at 250% of normal even though its depth is pretty close to what normal would have been 20 days ago.

North Fork at 3,000' on the north side of Hood is currently at 2,000% of normal even though depth is only slightly higher than the normal median peak.

Correct, and I just learned this figure is a median. For some reason I assumed it was a mean in the past. A few days ago the John Day basin was showing some ridiculously high figure, think it was 2617% or something. Turns out the median was zero. Then they pulled the John Day basin off the snowpack charts, and understandably so.

The chart says snowpack is 88th percentile, which paints a much more accurate picture of where we’re at with snowpack.

Nice to see the man baby is still having a tantrum.

Tantrum?   Where?

Some of you just like to pretend as a form of entertainment for yourself.     My wife thinks I am bored... I haven't had much emotion at all lately.    Nothing to be excited about or look forward to.      The only time I even mention the weather at home lately is when we are going to have a rare nice day so she can plan accordingly.   Of course we are dealing with significant health issues on both sides of the family right now so the focus has really shifted anyways.  Not sure I could have even enjoyed a nice spring at this point.

Looks like 0.25" on the day at SLE. Still coming down, though the sky has brightened a bit.

Sorry about the family health issues. Unfortunate part of life sometimes.

Thanks.

It's really all consuming... and I know you have gone through this as well.    Focusing on the weather is just a way of distracting myself right now.
