Even though at this stage I would have arguably preferred a warm and sunny afternoon, I still had a very nice afternoon at Stanley Park yesterday. I wore rain gear, of course. Would have been a miserable afternoon without it.

It’s really rare for me to have a bad afternoon in the woods. Plus, even in a more normal spring, there usually are rainy spells in May and June. This is in fact the best time of year to experience the soundscape of raindrops falling on intact leaves (summer is usually dry so don’t hear that sound very often then.

May and June rain is usually much different than winter rain because its so lush.    I really enjoy it as well... but not every day.    I would prefer some variety.    Maybe rain on just 4 out of 7 days each week?     Still enough to keep it lush green.

Two weeks out... this is such an obvious troll post because some people are hoping for nicer weather which seems to bother you greatly.

But it is a good reminder to book a getaway trip.    Maybe CA.

What exactly am I doing to make the preference wars worse than they would otherwise be in this cool and wet spring? I mean besides simply being present and having the history I do. I post daily obs and commentary of the models, maybe the occasional nature pic, and have been actively avoiding direct engagement in this garbage for months now. I have my opinions of course, but I have gone out of my way to avoid personally insulting others and jumping in on the many arguments. Hopefully that hasn’t gone complete unnoticed by everyone.

You’ve been fine this spring. I think mother nature is rewarding your attitude change. 🍻

You may not notice this... but for starters every single post from anyone mentioning that some drier weather would be nice is met with a troll or weenie reaction from him.   Literally every post.     If you think wanting a little dry weather is just trolling then I am not sure what to say.    That is a perfectly reasonable expectation even in a Nina spring and its a genuine desire.

Suddenly since he feels free to be himself... there is this constant battle again.  The respectful Cascadia is gone.   He just cannot allow dissenting opinions.   I don't care if Andrew wants rain every day.   That is great.   Have at it.    But saying its been unusually persistently wet and some drier weather would be nice seems to be taken as a direct attack on Andrew and Jesse.   I understand their perspective.    They have watched long-term drought impact their environment and then went through the 2020 fires.   Now they want as much rain as possible.    I get it.   What more can I say?     And I still would like a few more dry days mixed in.... and that is my perspective.

Hard to be upset about wasted troughing though considering we had lowland snow in December, January, February and April in the PNW this winter.

I'm happy that we got some snow down here in December considering these situations can be a lot worse for us. Even a subfreezing high according to some weather stations near me.

The February air mass was also pretty nice.

The April snowstorm down here was amazing though. 2 inches at my place in the middle of April, and up to 8 inches in other places.

Overall this winter was okay down here, would've been nice if the arctic air made it all the way down south but the snow was still nice!

I would agree with this... I could/should probably tone it down a little and will try. It is a bit entertaining to see the whining, after so many warm/dry springs. The fact is this spring has been a godsend for this area, I get that the Puget Sound region did not need this as much as we did, but collateral damage, or so they say. I doubt there have been a lot of cold wet springs in Oregon that were not cold and wet in Washington...

This is true... Andrew has been pretty active in the regard.   😃

Based on the reactions I see on every post... I get the sense that Jesse is building up.    He just wants to scream at anyone who does not love rain every day.    So eventually it will probably get back to where it was last fall.

Unrelated but I was thinking about the winter of 2015/2016. December 2015 was the wettest month ever at PDX, and then we had that strange mini snowstorm in January. I think late Jan and Feb were very warm though.

Until last Christmas, that was our only white Christmas since I've lived here. The mid-November through early January period was actually pretty decent, past that was pretty putrid though.

It would be nice if we had 1-2 Central/Eastern Oregon posters. We used to have a couple, but one moved and the other got banned.

It is interesting that since Jesse came out of hiding... he has to negatively react to every post from Randy and myself now.  Literally every post.  I usually keep reactions to things I like or appreciate.     But when I log in now... I see many pending negative reactions from Jesse every time.    I know he wants to lash out but he has to keep it above board on here with his responses.    I just offered him the opportunity to berate the crap out of me in PM so he can get it out of his system.    I won't even fight back.    I hope he takes me up on it... it would be good for him.  👍

Jesse you’re not on a ‘ban watchlist’ and you haven’t done anything remotely against the rules. This is the second or third post you’ve made hinting you’re walking on eggshells. If you want to spam with weiners that is your American right.

It definitely hasn’t been the Central Valley lite stuff we have grown accustomed to the last ten years. But that was a pretty big aberration from our historic springs. This year has been on the cool and wet side, but pretty normal in the grand scheme of things, especially relative to a decade of torching.

I get the desire to counter Tim but I think this spring is more impressive than some are giving it credit for, at least since the second week of April. April was one of the wettest on record for the region, we had an unprecedented snow event even going back to the 1870s (maybe something similar happened before that? Justin would probably know) and it's been persistently below normal with only very brief interludes of warmer than normal. PDX hasn't gotten above 75 yet which I imagine is pretty rare by this point in this spring, though I don't have time to check at the moment.

Overall it hasn't been historic aside from the snow event, but I think it's still been pretty impressive.
