Just watched the latest video from Eric Snodgrass on Ag Weather... thought this was pretty interesting.    That is Sahara Desert dust going all the way across the Atlantic and into the SE US.

Huh? Good sir that would be Rainier and Adams. Unless we took a time machine to 1979 on that flight.

Edit: you also caught the extinct Goat Rocks volcano. Last erupted some 500,000 years ago and is responsible for the Palisades on US 12, the lava flows in Yakima Canyon and other interesting Dacite formations.

I thought St. Helen’s blew it’s head off.

12Z ECMWF shows clearing on Sunday and a nice Memorial Day.    Maybe the timing will speed up.    There is a trough on Friday and Saturday... but the troughing does not seem to be just parked over the PNW.   It's a fairly progressive pattern and does not look too bad overall.   A big improvement over last couple of months.

Gorgeous day so far... got the lawn mowed finally.   It was ridiculously long.

Some hints at maybe some convection now...

Don't see a cloud in the sky here in Portland! Probably going to be the first 3+ day dry stretch here since March.

Edit: Well now there are a few, but not many.

Gargantuan phase 8-1 MJO on the way for early June.

If this were hurricane season we’d be in deep s**t.

😂 Not an extreme pattern out there, usually.

Correlates to -NAO. Troughing at both coasts and a ridge over the Central US is how this typically plays out.

When convection gets deeper into the IO then it becomes a cooler signal in the PNW.

I bet a time lapse here today would look pretty cool.  Clouds are billowing and collapsing really fast.   I see a big black cloud building up and then look in that same direction 5 minutes later and it's all blue sky again. Need to get a nest cam.

All around us now... but still fairly sunny here.    Hearing lots of rumbles of thunder now which is interesting with the sun shining.

Looks like we will miss the storm... its moving south of us and thunder has stopped now.   Got cloudy for a few minutes and now the sun is back out.

Currently in Sedro Woolley at the kids school auction/fundraiser. A little bumpy looking to the east.

Nothing left but just some thin high clouds now.   Radar shows what is left of that storm is moving into Renton right now.   It made it pretty far to the west.
