Crazy random thunder showers popping up everywhere. Here at Renton Highlands and it’s hailing, raining, and sunny all at once. I’m waiting for some lightning and thunder 🤨

Not really popping up... they have been on a steady course westward from the Cascades all afternoon.

Bet my lunch spot was cooler than your guys’ today! Spent the day in Bend area for my Cascade Volcanoes field trip. Ate lunch on top of Lava Butte (my friend’s sandwich got a bit crushed on the hike up), the video is looking to the south towards Newberry Volcano and Mt Thielsen area. Could see every volcano between Hood and Scott today.

Plenty of fun clouds towards the crest. Actually saw a few raindrops in Sisters! Mostly clear now in Lebanon though.

Looks like its raining pretty hard in Bellevue and Kirkland too... really odd that it went right by us here and it did not rain at all.

Severe clear and a 65/36 day. Glorious for late May. Looks like PDX will possibly avoid 80 this week.

12Z ECMWF showed a high of 61 at SEA today... actual high was 67.    It also showed 66 at PDX and the actual high there was 73.    Its cold bias seems to still be in place even in a cold spring.

Doesn’t like afternoon mixing all that much I suppose. Most models tend to underdo high temperatures on clear days.

NAM and ECMWF also tend to undershoot highs here during the summer months. Not sure why.

GFS has the opposite problem, tends to overmix/dry the BL.

Lol the NAM just loves to inject sfc moisture. Had DP’s around 50 here, instead they’re in the low 40s. That’s proved the difference between storms and no storms.

Yeah the GFS over the Amazon is laughable, often bringing highs into the low 110s over rainforest. Same deal with eastern India. GFS loves drying the lower column

Wow... just had another loud rumble of thunder here.   Sky does not even look threatening.   I been watching the stuff over Seattle and forgot to look east again.

Ehhh... rainfall can't be very heavy.  I can see all the mountains to east perfectly.   But there has been 3 lightning strikes towards Mt Si with the sun shining on the mountain.     Just had two very loud claps of thunder.

Storm that formed over Lake Cavanaugh is bowing out as its outflow boundary coincided with an abrupt streamflow change to the SW. Might get a svr warning assuming the folx at NWS SEA are paying attention to it.

Storm to its south near Verlot has a 0.5” hail report on it too.

This is the loudest thunder I can remember with such a non-threatening and quiet looking sky.     The house has been shaking with these claps of thunder and you would never imagine there would be anything going on by looking at the sky.    I saw a lightning bolt between here and Mt. Si that looked like it came out of blue sky.     Very strange evening.

The cell out here is passing by to the north this time... looks like it will scoot by again without actually doing anything here other than putting on quite a show in terms of lightning and thunder.

Was puking snow in the North Cascades today. Full on blizzard conditions under some of those bands.

I’m in Sedro Woolley at the moment, but just texted back home to get a report. Thundering here in Sedro still.

Those recent lightning strikes south of I-90 are right over my area.    But as that map shows... they are quite disconnected from the main cell passing by to the north.     Pretty interesting to see lightning coming out of blue sky.    That is a first for me.

I didn't have all the filters on. I do really like this website for work, it pops up the lighting when it happens.

Interesting how dry things were in the SH subtropics at that altitude since 2013.

The eruption reversed it in an instant.
