Looks like 76 at PDX today. They were about a week away from tying their longest streak at or below 75 on record (last 75+ day there was September 25th)

74/44 here with a mix of sun and high clouds. Another nice day

Pretty amazing... climo feels like summer right now.   Seriously craving some climo.   Another 10 days of unusually cold with rain every day sounds awful if I am being honest.

From what I see on NWS Spokane's facebook page, 5/21/1896 holds their latest 70+ degree day record, and GEG hasn't hit 70 yet this year.

Color me surprised, their climate isn't drastically different from K-Falls and they hit 80 in mid-April, but cooled immediately afterwards of course.

I just noticed your Klamath Falls data in your signature, and saw some interesting stuff! In 2013/2014, you only had 9 inches of snowfall, which is actually about how much I got that winter!

Yep, today was nice. Got to wear my t shirt again instead of my light jacket. The whole biosphere being green as ever really helped Seattle’s “style” points today, too.

Their climate may not be different numbers wise but the two locations are several hundred miles apart and subject to differing weather patterns

My coldest month in that area was Dec 2013 but that was pretty dry. Some of the snows were localized, I had friends from back in Beaverton who told me they had more snow in the Feb 2014 event.

I used to live in Bethany from 1999-2004 when I was in elementary school. I'd say they had more summer t'storms than Milwaukie, but some of my memory might not have been the greatest when I was younger.

That's nice! We've done pretty good when it comes to snow here in the past few years. 2013/14:~8-10 inches. 2014/15: 0 inches. 2015/16: 1 inch. 2016/17: 18 inches. 2017/18: 5 inches. 2018/2019: 4 inches. 2019/2020: 1 inch. 2020/2021: 4.5 inches. 2021/2022: 6 inches.

When it comes to thunderstorms, the only one I really remember well is from September 2019 I think. That had a ton of lightning and hail. There was also a tornado a few miles away apparently.

I think the Bethany area can get a lot windier when the east wind accelerates down the West Hills than other places in the west metro area.

I just had my first bigger t'storm last night in my new area. Overall eastern Kentucky gets less severe ones, and I think most of the tornadoes that make up the 21 average annually are up until you get to I-75 or just after. But a few noteworthy ones can happen. An EF3 happened in March 2012 within 50 miles of here. Mayfield was on the other side of the state. In fact, none of those big lines that came thru last Winter had any lightning here at my place.

That's nice that you had a large thunderstorm!

Also, I think Milwaukie had a huge downpour a few weeks ago, like 2.2 inches of rain in a few hours. Not sure if that had any lightning though.

We had 60mph winds this evening. Your area does better than mine for severe I think, so yours should be coming.

Snapped this pic as the wind front arrived. It was…loud.

First hail should be in the near future. There's been several times it sounds like hail wants to fall, stops and then its just a downpour when it starts dumping.

Have you been under a severe warning yet? Don’t recall any in E-KY yet but my memory could be failing me.

Not Boyd County, but the storm I had last night briefly was warned right before crossing into the county line.

Jackson has been in one or two.

This is very interesting. Cadillac, MI sees about the same amount of precip days as Olympia, WA. MI sees a lot more precip days than I thought.

Cadillac is right downwind from Lake Michigan which while not like the Pacific is basically an inland sea. They are within the lake effect snowbelt. Nearby Traverse City gets about 100" of snow a year, probably a bit less in Cadillac.

They still manage 12F average lows in January with 18 precip days, and they're at the same latitude as Eugene and just above 1000' elevation. Very cold winters for its latitude... but still warm compared to east Asia.

vladivostokbox.thumb.png.8b2f88a10b11a68deb37ac7853a4e731.png

Coastal city at the same latitude as Roseburg (their port requires icebreakers in winter!). If the Earth spun the other way, our climate might actually look something like this, although probably not quite as cold because of all the blocking mountain ranges.

More of a seasonal lag in Olympia.
