Looks like we start heating up, at least in E WA in early July

LR modeling in general (including the weeklies) has been over-emphasizing the 4CH/Intermountain West heat. Keeps pushing it back. Hopefully that continues.

We hit 35" in 2008-09 where I was living, in Brush Prairie, WA.

I think we could ride our little streak out until the next Nino, but we'll see. Neutral ENSO can be hit/miss. You have your gems like 2013-14 and 2003-04, but you also have your turds like 2012-13.

I think the last 14 years have at least re-established that Ninas (particularly weaker ones) are still generally the best for lowland snowfall. After the travesties of 1998-01 and slow torture of 2007-08.

35" is incredible for a lowland winter. We had 18.5" in Silverton that winter, pretty good, probably the 2nd most my Dad has gotten at his place, since he moved there in 1989. 92-93' was a big one in the WV, he had 37" that winter. 2016-17 and 03-04' both had about 15" or so.

Snowfall                                  Precip

2022-23: 95.0"                      2022-23: 17.39"

Just drove it... the valley floor is 1.8 miles from the end of our driveway.    This is the valley floor.   And a very flood prone location.   The Snoqualmie River backs up into this area when it floods.

20220523_152149.jpg

So 1.8 miles… or just under 3000m… and you claim your wife can walk this distance in about 10-12 minutes. Women’s 3000m speedwalking world record is 11:48.

Either Tim’s wife is an Olympic level athlete, or Tim is exaggerating. Hmm… gonna go with Occam’s Razor here.

Well... could be some slight exaggeration involved.  Not sure.   I am pretty sure she is at the turn around point in about 12 minutes or close to it.    Not exactly sure.   She runs down and there is a downhill incline the entire way... any world records would be on a flat surface so not a fair comparison.  Then she walks/jogs back up.

The fact that you don't know the exact time it takes for your wife to reach the turn around point on her walks is ******* disgusting. What kind of husband are you? Embarrassing. Is it 11 minutes? 13?

All guidance looks f**ked up to me in the medium/long range.

But at least the Euro resembles the EPS. So if it’s wrong then it’s a systemic error.

Agreed. I know people who religiously consider a metric like that to be anything short of an hour. I’m more in the less than 15 minutes camp, particularly during a multi-year nina.

Yeah, it was dope. Likely the snowiest since 1968-69 (1979-80 was close in some places around here but that was mostly just from the one storm). 2003-04 and 1992-93 are the only other winters that I've seen crack 20" in this area, and they only both just barely made it.

I would say 1992-93 still holds the distinction of best winter of my lifetime. Down here I would probably rank 2016-17 just above 2008-09 for #2.

Outside of the PDX metro area, I don't think 2016-17 gets the love it deserves. That was a solid winter from beginning to end. From lowland snow in early December to lowland snow in early March, it really brought its A game. Someday we'll have a winter like that again which also includes a major regional blast.

Medford had their largest snowstorm since 1919 or something AFAIK. That winter was 100% my favorite living here though.
