Another note, it is very wet east of the pass. Incredibly green with standing water. It looks like late April instead of late May. You can definitely tell the cold anomalies this Spring have been strongest east of the pass.

Are you going east too?   My God... Andrew has claimed I was the only person who ever thought of leaving the clouds and rain of western WA for the drier side of the mountains.    Apparently its a very, very popular idea judging by the traffic right now.

We decided to stay on this side this weekend.   Tomorrow and Monday might end up dry for most of the day... and it won't be significantly better over there anyways.

It was spur of the moment and I was invited along. I am going with my friend and his family, it is an annual tradition, rather than a specific ‘getaway from the clouds’. But the break will be nice.

Apparently many people are headed to the east side over Snoqualmie. But I’d guess this probably happens every weekend up there given how many people live in Seattle.

Every Friday from now through September the traffic is backed up heading east over the pass and every Sunday heading west (except this weekend it will be Monday).

It's amazing how much what looked like was going to be a wet weekend has fallen apart up here. Sure there will be clouds, but we may stay dry for the rest of the weekend? Kind of crazy, considering how the models were showing 0.5-1" of rain as late as yesterday.

It's also remarkable how dry the second half of the month has been up here. Since the 16th I've picked up 0.37" which is significantly below average. Of course maybe we'll have some showers come through over the next few days, but I've been surprised how nice it has been.

Seems like it’s been wetter overall the further south you go the last 2 months. (Not exactly but overall) Opposite of how it was back in November when it was the AR party up north.

That is a good question! July is quite a bit wetter in your area too. I went on PRISM and compared our locations. Your area looks like it averaged 85.92" in the 1991-2020 period, my location 76.13", so your location averages about 10" more rain a year. This is with 800m resolution, so likely pretty accurate.

Here are how the averages broke down over time, this is nice data since Silver Falls precip data has gotten a bit spotty over the past decade or so.

                         TIM                         ME

Jan                  11.48"                     10.57"

Feb                  8.04"                      8.14"

Mar                  9.23"                      9.21"

April                 7.89"                      7.94"

May                 5.44"                      5.10"

June                4.64"                      3.28"

July                 1.81"                        0.64"

Aug                 1.92"                       0.61"

Sept                4.01"                       2.48"

Oct                  8.49"                      5.92"

Nov                 12.41"                     10.12"

Dec                 10.56"                     12.12"

Looks like our area is slightly wetter than your area Feb-April (About the same), and wetter in December.

I've never looked at PRISM before. What a cool resource!

Mine would be:

Jan          9.35

Feb          6.54

Mar          7.08

April        5.99

May        4.73

June       3.95

July        1.46

Aug        1.72

Sept       3.56

Oct         7.18

Nov        10.08

Dec        8.07

That's not terribly far off from what I've noticed. They nailed last year's precipitation to within a couple of inches on the preliminary, so that's good data to use!

This is a really cool resource! It's fun to go look at past events and see temps from them! Obviously it won't be exact, but it looks like my area peaked at 113 degrees on June 28th, 2021. Coldest temp since I've lived here seems to be 11 degrees on 12/8/13 and 12/9/13. Apparently my area didn't get as cold as other areas in Jan 2017 though.

According to the site's data I pulled off 13 straight sub-freezing lows this Dec-Jan, bottoming out at 10 degrees (my house was slightly colder), and maybe most impressively, Dec 28th had a mean temp of 17.7.

Most impressive stat I can find for my area is the 36.9° average temp for the winter of 2016/2017.

I'm probably going to be out in the Palouse and maybe do some hiking in the Blues/Wallowas next month. Quite lovely this time of year when it's green, especially in a wet spring like the one we are having.

We are blessed to live in such a gorgeous region, Tim. Richland notwithstanding.

What about Toppenish?   Not sure if I have even been there but you seem have a real hatred for that place!    Moses Lake and Ritzville too.     Richland is actually one of the nicer cities in Central WA.  👍

I am torn.  It has been about as persistently wet as it can be here and it's been unusually cold, but that has also prevented all day marine layer stratus from locking in and that would probably be worse.   At least with this pattern there are some meaningful sun breaks on most days.    Regardless... we probably won't see a spring as bad as this one in terms of persistent rain and cold for quite some time.

Turns out everyone else on here went east and we are staying put.

So I had to look up Toppenish... and I have been there.  Primarily because there are like 20 wineries and endless vineyards with a few miles.

So I will post some nice pics of Toppenish as you requested and give it some love.   Its not a total sh*thole like you imply.   😁
