Just noticed that SEA has only had one positive departure for the entire month and that was only a +1.  Running about -5 for the month.

It appears the Central and South Sound areas may eke out a nearly dry tomorrow.  Could it possibly be?

Gonna be hard to stay this cool/wet all the way through the summer. The nicer weather will come just enjoy the cold anomalies while they last!

Don’t worry guys, our first cooler and sunnier than normal summer in 90 years is on the way. It’s a lock!!!

Because of the UHI I kind of think it would be impossible to have a cooler than normal summer that didn't feature more cloud cover than usual. We basically have to accomplish it on the backs of cool high temps.

Yea the whole 1985 #arcticdesert redux just doesn’t make sense in the 21st century. It’s gotten a lot harder to pull off negative departures with sunshine than it used to be.

Seattle just needs another 1.5” to surpass our driest year on record (1952) so we can can get that worry out of the way…

Already at 24.96” for the year right now. Driest I’ve recorded was 27.77” in 2013. Just 0.90” of rain in the whole month of December.

That’s interesting SEA was at 32.76” and not too far from you.  There must a have a more common theme of a northerly storm track that put you more into the Olympic rain shadow and not as much southerly flow.

6 of the last 8 years have been over 40” of precip annually for SEA. In decades past it was typically 1-2 out of every 10 years would see over 40”.

There is no doubt it has been getting wetter in the Seattle area in the last 10-15 years... even while places to the south apparently turn into a desert.

SEA has now had 42.33 inches of rain just since October 1st which is way above the annual average and almost 8 inches above normal for the Oct-May period.   OLM is almost 10 inches above normal for that same period.   To say its been very wet is an understatement.

Not to mention even 1985 had one of the hottest summer months on record for the region.

That must be a mistake there’s no way SEA has had that much rain. Maybe you added another month in there by accident? here’s the stats for Tacoma this year so far.

January 2022 was actually a little cooler than the current normal for some lowland spots. The “coolest” overall since 2017, although that isn’t saying much. Largely thanks to inversions and the cold start to the month.
