Nice. I popped over to Leavenworth and grabbed this. Snow gonna hang on into June at this rate. Stevens and Snoqualmie had a bunch still on the ground as well...just didn't take any pics

Trees get sick and die just like all living things.    Some people on here seem to assume every tree should live perfectly healthy and forever.  But look around at people as they age... it obviously doesn't work that way.  🤨

Of course people who live stressful/impoverished lives tend to die younger and suffer from more diseases.

Same goes for trees under incessant death ridging.

Sorry to hear that.

Both my grandpas died in January.  The first in 2008 and the other in 2012. -PDO is not good for grandparents.

Lost my grandfather in 2012 as well. His funeral was on the day of that derecho.

He had a big time sense of humor and knew I loved storms, so maybe that was his way of saying goodbye. 🥲

I got the weenie gene from my grandpa on my mom’s side, without a doubt. He had a little weather station at their house on Willapa Bay and I supposedly became pretty fixated on it pretty young. When I was in the sixth grade he used a contact he had at the Astoria NWS office to get me a tour. Seeing their little broadcast booth for the NOAA radio was like seeing the face of God.

A few degrees NW of the star Arcturus is where they appear to radiate from.

With the astronomical twilight up there it might be more difficult to see them, (based on what I’ve read about meteor showers, at least).

A chilly 57/46 here today.  Quite an impressively cold May to say the least.  It looks like SEA will come out right around -5 for the month.

Yeah there hasn’t been anything I could see and there is some clearing mainly to the north. Oh well I was walking home from a friends house had kinda forgotten all about it until I saw some clearing skies.

Me and my older brother had always been into weather stuff…but my mom and her friend actually gave us one of the more memorable surprises of my life. They took us to the Q13 Fox News station and we had no idea what was going on. Then Walter kelly came out and met us! Super cool guy! I was 12 at the time…got to talk to him about a bunch of cool weather stuff. Mainly talked about January 2011 it was right after that bust lol. Was a very fun experience as a kid got to see him even do a weather break bit on the green screen. Have been very fascinated with weather even more so since.

Looks like a pretty high chance of thunderstorms on Thursday at this point.  Both the GFS and ECMWF have strong indications for it.  They show it even being possible tomorrow afternoon and Wednesday afternoon.

Two or three memories from the winter of 1968-69 are what got me started.  I was just fascinated with cold and snow after that.

I’ve always been fascinated by snow ever since I was a kid. January 2007 and December 2008 were fun ones! It’s funny to look back on now I remember almost being in tears when January 2011 busted 😂

December 2010 Boxing Day miss almost had me shedding tears as well. Multifoot blizzard seemed like a lock inside 48hrs, NWS issued winter storm watches, then it was all snatched away at the last second. Ended up with wind-blown flurries while VA Beach and NYC/New England got obliterated. It hurt sooo f**king bad. 😭

I know I said I was taking time off from this thread, but this post resonates with me, had a similar experience by meeting with Jeff Renner at KING5, and having a conversation about weather and watching him do a live weather segment, so awesome.   That was in 1996.

Pretty much a lock WA will come in top 10% cold for the Apr / May combo this year.  Pretty big time stuff.  Currently 46 here.

I have to say...it's pretty hard to complain about the weather the past two days.  Almost no rain with temps way below normal.

My near crying experiences were Feb 1988, and Jan 2005.  Not a lot of people know about or remember the Feb 1988 fiasco.

2.65" of rainfall over the three day holiday weekend with an average temp of 44F. Not great weather for a bbq but it was still a lovely, relaxing weekend!

Last nights euro run would put us close to 150% of the normal June rainfall in the first week…with more following later in the week.
