May Winter Continue 2022 PNW

The Blob

Recommended Posts

It is a beautiful day.  Currently 57F, cool breezy conditions, but blue sky and sunshine.  Perfect for working in around the yard.  This is how PNW summers should be, with some rain to keep things green year round. :)

Showing about 3.5" here.

If the euros right we could hit 4” this month. Most I’ve recorded is 3.98” in May so hopefully we can set another record for this spring.

59 here, increasing clouds and southerly winds. We will see if we can record a sub 50 high coming up…haven’t recorded one this late in the season so that’s another record that could potentially break.

Gorgeous day. Didn’t really even feel how chilly it was until high clouds came in overhead and the afternoon breezes hit.

GFS and the Euro are subtly different for Sunday. Though the sfc conditions are stark. GFS keeps things rainy with highs in the 50s, while the Euro strays the front offshore, soaring temps into the low-mid 70s inland and even bringing a mild thunderstorm risk in the evening as the trough axis moves onshore.

Obviously a weenie prediction but I'm feeling an "all or nothing" outcome for next winter. Either a monster (best winter of the century?), or a dud as the most likely outcomes.

Hopefully Central Oregon can at least manage some subzero temps. Would like to go there during an arctic blast someday.

I look at it as every year could be our year. Some have a better chance than others. I really enjoyed how this cold season turned out, it ended up being a very satisfying progression. An earlier start to the cold would have been idea, but the onset at the holidays was certainly magical. That mid-January through mid-February stretch was pretty putrid too, but I guess it could have been worse.

I’ve been in this house for five winters and in that time we’ve had three pretty epic (by Tacoma standards) snow storms. So it seems like the law of averages would have us positioned for some duds upcoming. At least up here. I’d gladly be wrong of course…

We’ve had 65” of snow here in the last 5 years. Pretty historic stretch of snow minus 2019-2020…when we were just south of the decent stuff in January. That winter wasn’t entirely snowless atleast.

For the sake of accuracy. Lows in the mid 30's is nothing like winter for that area...🙄 It's called Spring.

That’s a pretty surprising number. I wouldn’t have guessed it was that high. Definitely a pretty good stretch of winters.

This looks suspiciously like the upper Plains to me.  I wouldn't consider Wyoming or Montana anywhere near the midwest.

IMO we probably will score atleast some snow next year just based on the current La Niña…but I think we might be due for some D-F grade winters in the mid 2020s.
