Severe Thunderstorm Warning just to my west! Stepped out on the deck to take it in! Distant thunder and lightning is off the charts! Had a feeling this was gonna happen tonight. Thunderstorms are blossoming to my southwest. Might be a stormy night. We'll see. Either way....out on the deck with a cold one and taking in what I can⚡😎

Don't you just love these type of summer nights?

I'm gonna barely get missed by this cell to the west...northwest....and north. But wow....what a display. The wind got calm (even though it was windy all day) but just watching this pass by is amazing. So much lighting and thunder. So much electricity in the air. Mother Nature is so powerful. Cluster to my SW might still hit me. We'll see how that pans out.

This is exactly what I was thinking the other day when I experienced the super cell track right over me at peak intensity.  The immense power of the lighting and rumbles of deep thunder was extraordinary.

Both OMA and DSM getting rocked this evening...were any of the models showing this line of training storms this far south?  Iirc, they were showing it N of DSM across IA.  Glad ya'll getting the goods without the excessive severe stuff.

I went outside on my deck and had to feel how warm it was bc I couldn't believe it was STILL 85F at 2:30am!  Crazy to see its still so darn warm this late in the evening...UHI in the CHI....MDW was reporting 88F the last hour!

KC finally went below 80 degrees this morning after 65 straight hours above 80.  The last time KC went that long with temps above 80 was 42 years ago in 1980.

The official H/L at Grand Rapids yesterday was 90/66 that was the 1st official 90 reading at Grand Rapids for this year. There was no rain fall and 63% of possible sunshine. The Dew Point both officially and here in MBY reached 79 (79.5 here at my house) the overnight low at Grand Rapids was just 78 and if it stays above 76 until midnight that would be a new record highest minimum. Here in MBY the low was a cooler 75. At the current time it is 79 here with a dew point of 73. For today the record high is 97 set in 1894 in more recent times it reached 93 in 1994. The record low is 43 set in 1999. Last year it was a pleasant 79/58. A new record high of 93 was set yesterday at Muskegon. With a lower dew point there better chance of it getting warmer today than yesterday and we are off to a warmer start.

Woot woot, DWU just came back to reporting. No idea what yesterday's high/low was, and this morning's low.

Some local stations on wunderground were saying 95/96... also what Huntington was saying.

Today may be a degree or two above that.

Yeah that airport station seems kinda..squirrelly. Maybe you should invest in a PWS. 🤓

That was the first time since moving here they've done that, it was right after the MCS came overhead. Too much of a coincidence. There turned out to be a few reports of downed trees in parts of Ashland, just not in my immediate area. One of the roads in a report takes you closer to the airport's location.

Wow... Got woken up very suddenly earlier this morning by one of the loudest cracks of thunder I have ever heard. In my dazed slumber I thought the roof had collapsed or something. Checked Radarscope and it registered a lightning bolt in a corn field right across the street from my backyard. Took me a while to get back to sleep after that.

On another note, a cooler and cloudier day here today. Good for getting some yard work done before we go back into the furnace this weekend.

You have got to love those kind of "Midwestern wake-up calls." Nothing like being shaken out of bed by a random close CG strike... There wasn't much sleep going on in our household last night with several hours of thunderstorms in the area, but thankfully there was no damage in my backyard.

The sirens sounded twice for rotation and high winds on the supercell thunderstorm that was just a few miles off to our south. Picked up just under 2" of rain along with some marble-sized hail at the height of the storms. It was definitely a loud and active night of storms and I have been feeling just a little bit tired today, LOL.

Heat advisory criteria here is a heat index at/above 106°F. Those residual cool Atlantic waters have been a fantastic air conditioner.

Clock is ticking on that, though. By August those waters are just a dewpoint machine.

As models suggested, storms are trying to fire across east-central and southeast Iowa, but they are sputtering and doing nothing.

That supercell in Chicago ended up being amazing! I was shocked it came through but unfortunately was working so couldn’t really take pics like I wanted, but I love the tornado siren sound so much, it’s so creepy everytime it gives me goosebumps!!! Crazy how my house missed completely but downtown we got a direct hit.

The storms in Wisconsin are pretty intense, and the NAM actually looks like it brings them down here once again, hoping my house in the burbs get something tonight 🥰

Just heard my first cicada of the year. Mark it, June 15th!

These last couple convective outlooks have flopped, not an echo to be seen in this whole region but looks like Thu/Friday are better chances.

I got about 5/100. Gage was down.     A week of nothing  more than few drops.  Im sitting at 1.25 for June.  Again considerably  below normal rain.  April, may, june below avg rain. In fact since last august only oct and march were significantly  wet.  Now weeks of 90s and  a pattern thats even drier.   Im sure much of southern  Iowa will soon be on the drought monitor  once more.  Lets just hope its not a 2012, 2013 or 2017 repeat. The good news is models busted bad here on highs this week,   93 on 2 days and 89 another.  Not the upper  90s progged.   Humidity keeps highs down.  But 80.5 dewpoint  monday was absurd.

Got to 95 today, and at the time of that observation a DP of 75. Slightly lower than a couple days ago but we all know it increases when the sun goes down. 🤓

After looking that up, yes I'd say it was that one! Sounded like only 1 was out there.

The ones I'd hear in Klamath Falls would only do a very slight high pitched buzz. This sounds more like the ones in movies or in an Animal Crossing video game. ;)

Ha, guess I called it right in our PM thread. 😄 Scissor grinders always the first to emerge.

You’ll gradually hear more of them in the evenings followed by other species. Eventually it’ll be a 24/7 chorus.

It was another record setting day yesterday for both ORD & MDW...ORD set a new record high for the day (96F), while MDW hit 100F for the 2nd consecutive day!  It was a little less humid as DP's were in the upper 60's and we had very strong gusty SW winds up to 50mph in the city.  I'm sure that helped boost temps.  The skies were also a little murky and I was wondering why that was but had no clue that the jet stream carried the smoke from the fires all the way down from the NM region.

FVVmzZpWUAAY0BX?format=jpg&name=medium

I was awaken last night by some brief heavy rainfall as the weakening line of storms moved through N IL.  I'm looking forward to some cooler and more comfy air the next few days...Sat will almost feel Autumnal around the GL's with DP's in the upper 40's!  Great Bon Fire weather on tap...

Week 3-4...An Active Monsoon is looking very likely and I'm actually tickled with excitement bc this will def aid in the drought conditions.  I got a good feeling we'll be seeing a ton of beneficial rainfall over the 4 corners.

There were several new records set yesterday. The official high/low yesterday at Grand Rapids was 94/77. The low of 77 was the 3rd warmest minimum the warmest for the month of June. The record warmest minimum for June is 79 on June 20th, 1953 with 78 the 2nd warmest on June 28th 1958 and June 30th 2018. A new record high of 95 was set a Lansing and a new record high of 92 was set at Muskegon. At Holland the high/low was 93/80 that 80 is a new record low for the dated and ties June 20th 1953 for the warmest minimum for June. The overnight low here at my house was 69 and there was 0.28” of rain fall.  For today the average H/L is 80/59 the record high is 96 in 1952 and the record low is 39 in 1917 and again in 1947.  At the current time I have a temperature of 69 with cloudy skies.
