Pesticides aren’t really effective against Cicadas. They live underground for years and have above-ground lifespans of only a few weeks.

The removal of trees and urbanization might be factors. Or differences in weather conditions.

Good point.  My experiences with them was prior to FtWorth suddenly growing in huge spurts.
The city I grew up in was a “Cowtown”. Now they hate that title unless they can cash in on it.
I hear cicadas sometimes but you really need to get out in rural areas.  I miss hearing them and the coyotes at night.

Regarding the bolded, have you noticed your mood has changed for the better since moving?  I talked to people who lived/worked in the PNW and how incredibly difficult it can be to have an upbeat mood due to the cloudy nature of the wx pattern in the Autumn/Winter months.

100%.

It is very easy to let the constant gray of PNW skies get to you psychologically. Seasonal depression is a very real thing over there, particularly in the winter months. You could go weeks without seeing the sun for more than a few hours here or there and that starts to take it's toll after a while. One example is waking up in the morning. It's hard to wake up and get going in the morning when it's dark and gray and dreary outside for days on end. You get into a 'morning funk'. In contrast, I find it much easier to wake up and start the day here when it's sunny 85% of the time. Much more enjoyable.

That being said PNW summers are some of if not the best in the nation, in my opinion. Never too humid, hardly ever too hot, decent amount of sun, etc. Although this season over there has been much more rainy/cold than years past and I hear from family members that live over there that they are ready for some sun and warmth. So the beat goes on.

Yeah we’ve got plenty of forestland around here (including some bonafide old growth around the creek/riverbeds). So lots of wildlife, including bugs.

And lots of humidity due to all that transpiration. 😬
