June 2022 - Summer Begins

TT-SEA

Recommended Posts

This is the wettest start to June since 1990 and in the top 5 wettest first 10 days of the month in most places west of the Cascades. June 1990 was kind of in another league up here. While totals up here have been in the 2-3.5" range so far, totals in 1990 were in the 4-6" range. BLI had 4" by the 10th and Sedro-Woolley had a ridiculous 6.18" in the first ten days.

1990 was another year with very persistent rain in April and May and during the first half of June and then the faucet basically shut off.    After mid-month... it only rained on 2 more days out here in the foothills.

There was some more rain during the first week of July... but we managed a high of 79 on the 4th of July out here.

And September 1990 was very nice and was quite dry with only .40 for the month and rain on just a couple days.

More hope that after this next trough drops down that we might finally turn the corner into summer.   🤞

GFS took a huge swing to warmer for next weekend. Thicknesses on yesterday's runs were sub 540 and they're around 576 on the 12z today. Would make the difference between highs maybe in the upper 50's and to near 100 at the Gorge where I'll be at Beyond Wonderland. I'll gladly take something in the middle.

U big into edm?

Alright lawn guys/girls of weather forums. I need some advice. I have all these weeds around the edge of my grass. Should I weed wack, weed killer, hand pull them out? Figuring out this lawncare stuff😂😂 I don’t know the most efficient way  of killing them and not having them return. I have been handing pulling them in other parts of the yard, but it’s not efficient.

Pull em. Ground should be nice and soft. If its super thick grassy stuff/doesnt come up easy then square hoe it and mulch. Looks like a bunch of different stuff so you'd either go full kill (roundup) and risk damage to everything else or do a few different kinds of non-roundup kliller to get everything. @MossMan ?

Good ol’ hand job and mulch is the way to go.

Look at this cute little guy hitting Bremerton right now. Can’t be more than a couple miles across but might have hail in it.

Yep I would hand pull and then make the environment difficult for it to come back so heavy mulch and lots of shots of the vinegar mixture if anything tries to reappear until they simply give up the ghost!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Seems like September is gonna be warm and dry. But then again the Tonga volcano may not allow us to have any summer at all this year 🥶

Radars starting to fill in to the SW. Not expecting a ton of rain but it should still be a decently wet evening by June standards.

Don't think it's Tonga.   It might have flipped it towards Nina... but the Nina is driving the show right now and those lose their grip from July-Sept.    And I think some of you might be cursing Tonga soon enough when it has a warming effect over the next couple of years.

Yeah I mean it probably did something I just don’t know if it’s as dramatic as some might think it is…I’m no scientist though.

The big volcanoes usually have a net cooling effect across most of the Earth.   Tonga has not done that... if anything it will be the opposite given that stratospheric water vapor contributes to global warming.    We will see what happens when this Nina fades.

Looks like SEA actually pulled off a 59/53 day yesterday with 1.10" of rain. There can't have been many June days that have had a high in the 50's and over an inch of rain.

The fact the high occurred at both midnight Wednesday night and just before Midnight Thursday night AND the low occurred in the middle of the afternoon just adds to the uniqueness.

Feels like 5 p.m. on a rainy November evening.   And totally wrong for the middle of a summer afternoon.   🙁
