Definitely, but late September can even more often be persistently wet/coolish. I had a high in the 40s here on September 29, 2019. There's a big range to the list of possibilities at that point. Places like Salem have been to 90 as late as October 10 before, but they also have seen snow in the Willamette Valley as early as October 12 before back in 1881.

Yeah the extreme side definitely favors more Fall like weather in September.

I'll never forget September 2019 out here. Had a 30/24 day with heavy snow on the 29th and then of course October...If only we could have seen that pattern in Dec/Jan.

Starting to think we will have a meandering ULL over western WA or to the east (which is worse) for the holiday weekend.  Basically a rudderless pattern after this weekend so the models will be all over the place, but the EPS and GEFS are definitely going in that direction.

There are elements of late June and early July in both 2008 and 2010 right now.   Both years were wet and cool through about 6/20 and then had a warm spell during this same week.   2008 was better afterwards (for people who like sun) but only because the center of the troughing and the ULLs stayed just to the west and north through early July.   In 2010 the troughing came fully inland and it was wet and cool from 6/29 through 7/5.

Other than the brief heat spike, the models look about as good as they could right now.

Euro shows us hitting 90 one day then crashes pretty quickly. Looks decently wet for early summer towards the end of the run too. Could actually be a pretty fun dynamic stretch of weather. We will see how much precip we get the next couple days before the heat spike shows up.

Funny you should mention that.   My son just spent 20 minutes telling me about their friend and his girlfriend who came with them today on the boat.   These two people don't drink... they just smoke weed.   Like constantly.    Every waking hour.   They were never like this in high school but they went to Western in Bellingham and I guess that is the culture there.    So they get on the boat and everyone is relaxing and they have beer in a cooler and the music is playing and the sun is shining but these two people were like caged animals.   All they could talk about was getting off the boat to go get cheesy bread and find a random basketball court somewhere to eat and smoke weed and shoot hoops.   My son it was crazy... they just could not relax.   Not sure how they are doing in college... but they both graduated high school with honors were basically straight A students.    My son said he feels like he doesn't even know them any more.

My son has several friends at Western, and he made the same observation about them, any time they got together when he was home for the holiday, it was inevitable that there would be a smoke session.  He said it was pretty lame that they did not feel like they could ever get together without lighting up.

I used to smoke a lot of weed in high school but now it’s just an occasional thing lighting up. I have a couple friends who are major potheads smoking all the time and every time I see them they just have to smoke weed. I can see the benefits of doing it once a day in the evening to help you sleep but taking a huge bong rips all day long from the time you wake up is waaay too much.

California and Colorado are known for lack of marijuana consumption. Or is it lack of sunshine? Hmmmm

All depends on the attitude. College drinking culture is IMO everything wrong with college. I hate it. But on the other hand Spain, Italy, Portugal are the biggest wine drinkers in the world and yet have very low alcoholism rates. From what I understand they generally see wine more as a food item rather than something just to get drunk from… much healthier approach.

My son and I were talking this weekend about now that he is out of college, his whole perspective on drinking has changed.  He said he is looking forward to going to a bar and just hanging out with friends and having a couple of pints to relax, which is the exact opposite of college.  I'm guessing the bars and liquor stores around Bozeman have seen a noticeable drop in sales with him gone. 🙄

I think for Europe, its not taboo the way it is here.  It's not uncommon for a 14-15 year old kid to have a glass of wine with their parents at dinner.

My company has had a few contracts with Airbus as the customer over the years, so I had several co-workers who spent time over in Europe at Airbus manufacturing facilities.  They have cafeterias for the employees, and several of them had wine or beer on tap amongst the usual beverage selections. My coworkers said it was the craziest thing.  About 15 years ago with one of our previous European owners, the employee handbook left the door open for having a drink during work hours.  It did have language about not being intoxicated at work.  We never questioned it, the speculation around the water cooler was that since most of our customers were European or Australian, the program team would be able to join them with a beer or glass of wine at lunch without risk of running afoul of HR policy.

Looks like Stevens Pass should melt out later this week (as of yesterday it was at 4.7" of snow water equivalent). This will end up being in the top 5 latest melt outs at the pass in the last 40 years and could end up tied for the second latest. Median is June 6th so about 3 weeks later than normal.

2011: July 1
2008: June 25
1999: June 25
2012: June 24

Meanwhile it looks like most other stations in the North Cascades are in the 75th to 85th percentiles. So high snow, but not unheard of. It will be interesting to see how much melts out in the next couple days during the heat.

You’re lucky in that regard. I don’t get hangovers so there are no consequences that would dissuade me. Got myself into deep trouble on multiple occasions and had to rehabilitate both times. No bueno.

Drove over monday night. Still  a ton of snow up there. Looked like a helluva lot more than a few inches but thats probably a good median vs the deep spots/bare spots. Like, they could have an upper chair open if they still wanted (probably not but you know what i mean)

I’ve also never had a hangover and could see how it could pretty easily get me into trouble if I allowed it to. Tons of alcoholism on my mom’s side of the family.

My wife tried an edible once and became really worried that if she didn’t move her legs every few seconds they would turn to concrete. They didn’t.

I’m not quite that dramatic, I just naturally get bored of being on drugs. It’s really, really, fun and enjoyable occasionally, but so are many things, and if I’m lying around stoned out of my gourd all the time I miss out on those other things (and getting stoned just naturally tends to get old/tiresome/boring, as does anything done to excess). I realize I’m lucky that way and that there are others who just have to be a lot more careful with recreationally partaking of consciousness-altering substances.

I used to drink a lot when I was in college but after I graduated I rarely do now. If I ever need an alcoholic beverage, I drink red wine due to its health benefits.

I used to drink a tremendous amount. From about age 22 to 33. But then I decided to stop. I never had hangovers back then, but now if I have one drink I will be dragging the next morning. It's like once I quit, my body just couldn't handle it anymore... Which is probably fine.

well some people can't get together without drinking.  Not much difference honestly.  I've been a cannabis user for over 30 years.  successful career, home, married, blah, blah, blah, whatever.  it is what you make of it and totally about how responsible and determined you are to succeed.  I use Cannabis TO relax.  You just got to know the correct strains to get.  I prefer Indicas.

I don’t think its that simple. Some people’s brains are just wired to become addicts. I have a friend who just can’t understand how I get bored of getting stoned. “But you LIKE getting stoned! Why wouldn’t you just want to get stoned again and again and have as much pleasurable experience like I do?” (He had to give up pot entirely, because if he uses it he is basically powerless over it, and it WILL take over his life.)

Just because some people can use drugs and not have it hijack their entire lives doesn’t mean everyone can.

Postscript: And it’s not just pot. Some people can’t drink booze responsibly, either, and if they try, it will end up taking over their lives.

Nope. My A1C is actually pretty low. No one in my family tree has/had it either. Maybe some genetic reason for that.

Mental/cognitive problems run rampant, though. 😬 Alzheimer’s, insanity, depression, etc. I have the third one.
