June 2022 - Summer Begins

Been monitoring the wildfires in Alaska.  There is poor air quality for parts of Alaska right now and I am curious if this smoke will be carried towards our direction or not.  Thankfully smoke producing wildfires are scarce at the moment in the lower 48.

Such a troll!   95% of the people PNW would like a nice 4th.   Even Meatyorologist said he wants that day be nice.   Good news is that is pretty much the coolest day... its gets warm again right afterwards.  👍

Even the next day...

KHQM peaked at 91, 8° higher than forecast.  Pretty sure it will hit at least 100° here tomorrow.

I stand corrected, KHQM jumped up to at least 92 just before 6 PM after dropping to 86 around 4:30 PM after hitting 91 earlier than that, tomorrow is gonna be warmer.

Cool troughing is very “nice”.

FWIW I posted the GEFS mean, not the GFS operational.

Wouldn't be considered nice by 95% of people if its drizzling and 60 degrees on a holiday.   But thanks for your concern.  😁

92/54 day here. A lot windier than I was expecting, gusting 20-30mph here out of the east. Acting more like an early fall heatwave, mechanically.

Hoping we can avoid 100 tomorrow but timing could be unfavorable with offshore flow potentially cranking most the night/morning then dying off right around peak heating.

I really liked having the winds today. I’m hanging out in the basement this evening after being out all day with the windows open and the breeze feels so good coming in.

Got the fans running…live on the second floor of my apartment building so it gets hot AF. Days like this make me regret not having AC but overall I really only need it a handful of days a year so it just doesn’t seem worth it in terms of cost. Down to 80 now.

I’m telling you, the AC was the best investment ever from a couple years ago. Followed by an air fryer 🤣

I live in one of the coldest locations in the central/southern Puget sound in the summer. Even last summer I probably only had about 9 or 10 total days that it would’ve been nice to have it out of 90 days. Just the electrical cost and the cost of buying the AC just doesn’t seem worth it. If it really gets too bad I have a friend down the street with a basement I can stay at or my grandparents.

I agree. The electricity cost last couple summers for us were quite high due to the AC. Which is why I’m glad it’s a bit of a later start this year and fairly short-lived one…. With skyrocketing gas prices and inflation among other things, we were talking about cutting down on AC usage as well.

This is worth the investment... cools one room effectively and is portable so just store it for the rest of the year.

I hope it cools off for you.  I also don't have AC and hot streaks are miserable.  It's the worst when you can't get it cooled down.  I'm at 81F inside with all the windows open and a fan.  I sadly have to close my windows before I go to bed though, since I'm on the ground floor.  Outside is down to 72F. :)

75 here now…it feels better now than when I got home was probably 90 degrees inside my apartment.

Oh my gosh!  That is death!  Usually it tops around 80-85F in my place.  The sun hits me directly in the morning and at an angle at sunset.  Last summer during that heatwave it was 95-100F indoors for 2 and a half days.  Hope to never get there again.  I took photos of the indoor thermometer so I would never forget.

Spent the afternoon just downhill from Andrew at Silverton Reservoir paddleboarding with my better half and several hundred of our closest friends.

94f and a water temp of 64f. (Yes, I brought a thermometer) Everybody was in the water. Very windy. So glad to finally have some summer.

Finished with a dinner and drinks on an outside deck in Silverton. Wonderful Saturday in the PNW

Down to 73 already feels pretty nice. Overall a couple days ago I figured it’d be tough to hit 90 this heatwave but now I’m pretty sure we will hit 90 Sunday and Monday. Have work tomorrow but will be going out to mount pilchuck for a hike Monday. Hopefully it’s a bit cooler out there.

Models seems to be converging on the idea of a trough lifting through next Sunday with showers that day across western WA which lifts north for a dry day on the 4th... but not real warm.

And it does look like a convective situation particularly for the mountains.

Peaked at 76.6F today so it looks like I was one of the cooler places in the state. The strong northwesterly wind was certainly doing wonders to cool it down. The next couple days should be warmer though.

I am biased, but Silverton is the gem of the willamette valley. Silverton reservoir is very nice too, they also stock it with about 20,000 trout annually. With the high water this spring a good percentage probably got washed into silver creek. Where did you eat?

Not sure if we are going to Couer D'Alene... actually depends on how my dad is doing this week.

I grew up with an upstairs bedroom in a hundred year old farm house. When I was about 15 my parents finally relented and got us a window AC unit.
