June 2022 - Summer Begins

Really bullish on a cold winter in the West given descending westerly QBO and what looks to be a bonafide strong La Niña.

Not that it’ll happen, but verbatim this would be the year where, strictly on data, 1949/50 actually is an analog for once. 😅

Sucks for the Plains and SW US, though.

For simply referencing this as an analog, your impending ban hinges on a repeat.

Good luck!

18z still way less wet than the Euro. Ten times less rain for Everett and eight times less for Seattle for example.

Bouncing between 76 and 77 under sunny skies with a few random puffy clouds.    Literally a perfect summer day in my opinion.   Would not change anything.    Got up at 5 a.m. with the sun and finished work early and now soaking up the sun.

If i have to have a little rain or clouds on the 4th so that our potential heavy burn areas can get a good soaking, so be it.

Everyone seems to have their own very specific preferences and agendas.    I will trade you Tuesday for Monday.   And double the soaking just for you!  Tuesday's weather moves to Monday and vice versa.   Sunny and pleasant 4th and heavy soaking rain on the 5th.   One day closer to the fall rains.   Do we have a deal?     Everyone wins.  😀

FWIW... the 18Z GEFS is a little warmer for the 4th.    This looks like the precip lifts north a little faster,

71 at SEA and only 70 at PDX.   Interesting.

1986-87 was kind of a poo-infested winter so we definitely do NOT want significant rain in Salem on the 4th.

July 4, 1915 was also quite dry in Salem. As was July 4, 1949.

My thoughts are about the same as probably everyone else in your real life... some sun and 70s would be perfect.

There really is... that area around JBLM looks like the San Juan Islands in terms of vegetation.

I would posit that if it rains on the 4th, most people in "real life" will wake up on the 5th and start their days without giving a second thought to it. Quickly suppressing the unimaginable trauma and anguish from the day before.

That must be South Tacoma, based on the vegetation.

Actually it’s Winthrop, I mean, Leavenworth, I mean, Liberty, I mean, Mt Adams, I mean, Warm Springs Reservation, I mean, Sisters, I mean, Chemult, I mean, Klamath Falls, I mean, Susanville, I mean, Truckee, I mean… oh yeah! It’s that place with ponderosa pines!

Beat me to it lol. I was gonna bring up JBLM area, apparently the soil is exceptionally well drained there. Looks more like the Willamette Valley there than it does most other places on Puget Sound.

The 5th looks beautiful.   It will be easy to forget a dark and rainy 4th in Seattle.

I guess if there is anything to be happy about about this forecast is that we do get some rain.  The rain will help keep things damp when people illegally blow up explosives all around the city and around dry grass and hay bales (that's what people do, lol). Thankfully it never gets excessively hot.  Low 70s are tolerable...  Sunday and Monday will feel lovely.

No high 70s and above is a win in my book for this time of year. It is our driest time of year, so to get some precipitation is good!

75 for a high at SEA.   78 in North Bend.

SEA might tack on another degree with full sunshine this evening.

ECMWF showed 70 today... and it shows 75 tomorrow so that is probably a high of 80 to start July.
