How was the 18z euro?

Only out through 24 hours.   Looks spectacular so far.   No reason to think it will turn nasty!

So Crater Lake is an hour and a half away from here and an easy day trip. Is it any better than Lake Sammamish?

I assume its much deeper and MUCH colder.    And I can't have our boat in the water there in 20 minutes from the time I leave the driveway.    No bueno.

I went swimming in crater lake last year…was pretty chilly but refreshing on a hot day. Of course it’s 700’ down the trail so not quite as accessible 😂

The idea is to get you to beg for that cooling water by the time you reach it!

Of course when you reach the top again you'll want it even more

The hike down is soooo worth it. When I went to crater lake for the 1st time when I was 16 I was with my dad and he refused to do it since he’s fat 😂. Was really nice going on my own since I could do whatever I wanted to do!

I would posit that if it rains on the 4th, most people in "real life" will wake up on the 5th and start their days without giving a second thought to it. Quickly suppressing the unimaginable trauma and anguish from the day before.

Some of them may be sad they have to go to work again after not being able to go to the pool or the lake or to just lie in the sun on a hammock the previous day.

Really bullish on a cold winter in the West given descending westerly QBO and what looks to be a bonafide strong La Niña.

Not that it’ll happen, but verbatim this would be the year where, strictly on data, 1949/50 actually is an analog for once. 😅

Sucks for the Plains and SW US, though.

Give me half of what 1949/50 gave and I'll still be happy. 🥶

I bet even Mossman would sacrifice the rest of summer for a 1949/50 repeat. ❄️

I want my cake and slowly lick that plate clean as well…How about an amazingly sunny and warm July thru September and then a 49/50 repeat starting in October.

Yeah hadn’t heard much mention of thunderstorms but I wouldn’t complain. WRF-GFS looks like one rolls right through the Puget sound by the looks of the precip map.

Was October 1949 dry or wet? It seemed like a lot of the time we had a dry October in the PNW the winter was so-so or at best had average snow. I know November 1949 was top tier warm. As was 2016/1995 and a couple others I'm trying to remember.

Here at least, precip was pretty much average in October 1949. Most of the precip that month fell between the 5-11th. That must have been a pretty cold trough because we had sub-40 highs with it.
