Canaan Valley, WV is a unique place

It really is. They had a low of like -30°F one morning last winter.

Also get hurricane force winds and upslope blizzards during the cold season. Beautiful rime icing as well.

And in the summer they get both terrain induced thunderstorms and catch derechos/MCSs as they track across the Ohio Valley. Average summer high is in the mid-70s. 😍

100 degrees currently at the Minneapolis airport.  Two different friends just texted me simultaneously because they know I am a weather nerd.

Looks like some dry air for Phil.

His summer of death is not holding up its end for the time being.

Shhh don’t jinx it, man. 😅

But yeah, temps/dews have been very tolerable so far. Plenty of nice days to spend outside. June is usually pretty nice, as cold fronts still reach the area most years.

That said, the 99°F high last week is already hotter than anything we saw last summer. Fully expect a disastrous late July and August.

You got this reverse psychology thing down now.   Totally get it.

Haha. If I’m right, at least I’m mentally prepared for it can claim an accurate forecast (and I’m leaving town 7/31 anyway).

If I’m wrong, it’s a forecast bust but a personal preference victory. So there’s a positive spin to it either way.

No such luck up here today.   The only real clearing is near the water.   In fact there is a strip of clear skies right over the Sound west of Seattle while the rest of the area is still mostly cloudy.

Shocked how cloudy it is today. Was up at rattlesnake lake and it was raining a few hours ago.

FWIW the new EPS weeklies came in with a stronger -dAAMt/IO forcing signal mid/late July into August.

This is pretty old school. Bolsters the idea of a solid -PNA cycle around that time. Should be a victory for Andrew/Jesse et al.

Yeah... drizzled here most of the morning.  Classic last stand for every departing trough.   ECMWF always showed today being pretty cloudy.

New ECMWF weeklies... guessing we might be in for a pleasant July without significant heat or rain after we get the obligatory hot spike out the way.    This is also based on history after a very wet April-June period.

It's almost partly cloudy here now.    Not a bad day after the drizzle ended.

Hard to see the signal through the noise on that map. Pretty useless.

The important variables in the tropics are the real giveaway. Same way they were for the coming warm-up.

Wow..easily the strongest trade wind signal I’ve ever seen on the EPS weeklies at this time of year.

Seriously what the heck.

But still think that is how July plays out.

“Pleasant July” can mean different things to different people, though. For you, I assume it means endless ridging and/or a lack of troughing, which seems very unlikely to me. Especially as the months wears on.

No... ridging in July is usually hot.   I don't expect a hot July at all.

Maybe something like 2012.   I specifically said a lack of significant heat and rain.

Extremely sunny here.

Pays to not live in the rain forest when you like the sun.

It's "extremely" sunny... do live under a hole in the ozone layer.   😀

Sun shines plenty here as well.    I have even seen the sun shine up on the top of Mt Si once or twice in the last 20 years!   Or maybe like all the time.   Not sure.

Anyways... the sun is out here now as well.

I was up and working at 5 a.m. and need to do more this evening.   But yeah... it is nice working from home.   I get so much more done all around... at work and at home... by eliminating the commute.

It’s also nice working a mile from home (and having a very flexible work schedule) ran home for lunch today and did some weed spraying before heading back to work.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Indeed, I'll never go back to an office as long as I can help it.  Not to mention the savings in Gas these days.

No doubt... commuting would be insanely expensive now and still counterproductive as usual.

My company is doing hybrid work right now so only coming into the office around half the time. My commute is all the way across the Metro area so I would probably buy a Tesla if I had to commute everyday.

I'm working from home Tuesday and Thursday now. I like the hybrid model better than every day at the office and every day at home. Unfortunately now that my wife is off maternity leave she is commuting to work at Providence Medical Park in Portland.

I’ve been remote for years. It’s fine for someone like me who’s been around a long time. I do kind of feel for young people just starting their careers. You miss out on some of the social aspects of work if you never go into the office.

I am grilling on my deck in the sun in the middle of a rain forest.   How is this even possible?   Never happened before.

65 and sunny feels like 80 right now.
