June 2022 - Summer Begins

Looks like it’s going to be raining soon. I really get the feeling we’re gonna break the June rainfall record at my location this month. Unless the faucet just shuts off like it has the last couple of years in the second half of the month which I get the feeling isn’t gonna happen this year. We need another 1.87” which I think we will get.

It feels pretty humid by PNW standards. Then again last year I experienced it being 106 with a DP of 72 and that was probably one of the most awful experiences of my life.

The Southeast is like that all summer long. Summers there are intense.

I took the bait. 😂

Funny enough it’s much less humid here as dews have mixed into the upper 30s. Feels really weird lol..temp is 85°F but it’s almost like room temperature in the shade.

Welcome to my world. Dewpoints are almost always <50 here during the summer.

We will be due for another heatwave like that in 10-15 years probably with global warming.

NASCAR Xfinity Series is racing down in Portland.  First NASCAR race among the top three divisions since the Trucks raced in the 90s.  Excellent race so far, pouring down rain!  Typical Pacific Northwest weather! So pumped! :D Hope NASCAR keeps coming back or gets a track up here someday.

As for me, beautiful day.  Cold, cool, ocean breezes, overcast!  Good day!

Late part of Spring starts the muggy nights. Most of April was pretty mild but once you start hitting 90, there is almost no cool off at night. I experienced my first 70 dew points on 6/1.

I'll be sure to take advantage of the days under 80 coming up shortly, I bet we get no more of those until September.

You never drop below 70. It can be miserable. Lows in the 80s are even worse, but I'm sure you have air conditioning. It's 56 here and light rain.

Made it up to 72 in North Bend... still partly sunny here but should be raining within a hour.   Models show this band moves through quickly and its basically dry again this evening.

The weather over the next 10 days might be the nicest we’ll see until September. Cherish it, brother.

The rain this weekend is definitely focused further south. We have had light rain since about 6am yesterday. Hit 58 earlier now back down to 55.

Grabbed this screen shot a little while ago... 72 degrees but already have measurable rain in the books for the day.   Of course there is more coming so that .01 before dawn was not really needed to add another day to this ridiculous run of days with measurable rain.  👍

Not that I don’t want lots of rain here but it’s been nice that we haven’t been bullseyed constantly which leaves Oregon with the leftovers. Definitely needs to be that way more often.

I lived in Dallas, TX for a few years, and due to the UHI, many summer nights fail to drop below 80. It can easily be in the 90s until 10pm or later. Combined with DPs in the 70s, lack of wind, and the heat radiating off the concrete, it’s truly unbearable. Compared to that, I’ll happily take a cool and gloomy PNW summer 😊

My first full summer back here I felt the same way, but our October-May time period is much cloudier than most places. I'm really satisfied with an average summer. I need some warmth and sunshine to recharge my battery. An 80-95 degree day here is really quite comfortable. We drop into the 50s and 60s at night. You can't beat that. Dallas or a similar place is a completely different level of misery.😁

Let us have some of that cold in the winter too!

It's also been nice to see eastern OR and WA get some of the precip this spring and in the start of June as well

Wow. Basically a full on November 2006 pineapple firehose pattern in June. Find it hard to believe this would not produce flooding somewhere in the Northwest if it verifies.

Of course the Euro is quite a bit different from the GFS still.

Yeah Spokane area is real dry in the summer. But Central Oregon and Far North CA are on a different level. Low-mid 90s there legit don’t feel uncomfortable at all. And sometimes it even drops as low as 30s during the night after highs in the 90s.

Wow 18z shows about 7.1" here. I will say it is a bit of an outlier versus the ensembles when it comes to precip... On the other hand, any signs of warmth are fading quickly from the ensembles.

We could use some rain. January-March was pretty dry. That being said, I am definitely meant to live in an arid or semi-arid climate.🤣😂

Places like Deer Park drop into the 30s during the summer. Deer Park is only 15 minutes from Spokane. It's not a good place to have a garden.

I’ve seen a 28°F low in Sunriver in July before. But sometimes I forget that Eastern WA is generally much lower than central/eastern OR and NE CA. Waterville (Jim!) is the highest city in WA and it’s at only 2600’. We have a lot of towns above 4k and some even up to 5k with places like Chemult at 4700’ and Lakeview at 4800’. Generally not too many above 5k I think until you get down to Reno metro.

Spokane has livable parts that are around 2500-2600 feet elevation. Some parts of town are as low as 1600 feet.

If it verifies it would break the June record for precip in Portland by like 2.5 inches by the 20th

Bend is about 3300’, it is a fairly sizable city of nearly 100K people. Baker City has about 10,000 people and is about 3300’ as well. Burns is 4100’, K Falls is pretty about 20K people and 4000’. Lake view is the highest town in Oregon at 4800’.
