Ouch! Oh well. I'll be doing yardwork and reading Tim and Randy whining about the moss growing on their boats.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Interesting to see the heat set up in the south central part of the country going into summer.

Eerily reminiscent of 2011 in there regard. That was one of the worst summers on record in Texas.

Maybe it’ll stay bottled down there..? Meh who am I kidding, it never does.

Might get some gaudy CAPE values in your area later this summer…. Eastern protracted 4CH means an overwhelming EML presence.

06z GFS brings in an extremely potent trough for mid June early next week. Afternoon thunderstorms with highs in the 50s despite afternoon mixing.

Funny thing about 2019 is there was a marked S/N gradient with precip. CA was record wet that May. It got drier and drier as you went farther north.

Now it's the opposite. Up north, storm after storm and extremely wet. South of the 42nd parallel they can't get a storm to save their lives.

The Bay Area just saw record rainfall yesterday.

Very heavy rain falling this morning. 0.53" in the bucket since midnight.

EURO was wet for W. Washington, but very dry for much of W. Oregon. 06z GFS on the other hand brought ample rain as far south as the Umpqua Basin.

Something interesting about June so far, at least down here... It has been running very mild. SLE hasn't had a below average day yet and is running a +3.1 departure, next 7 days look near to a little above average as well. Nights have been very mild with all the cloud cover.

I just ran the 500mb loop for May-July 2011 and it was so much more blocky.

This is the June 1-15 composite... pretty much the opposite of this year across the North Pacific.

It’s been mild up here too. PDX is running a 2.8 departure for June so far, and that’s with the 1991-2020 averages. Only a half inch above average in rainfall. Hopefully the second half of the month will trend a little cooler.

With a couple exceptions like the 2nd week of April and a couple points in early May, the airmasses this spring have not been nearly as cold as 2011. I think people like to forget just how cold that spring was. I could run through the stats for the millionth time, but people don't care about facts.

Blocky means more cold.   And more chances for sunshine and dry days.     It's a trade off.   We are in a mild and very wet pattern now.

Here are the June 1-15 composites for 1999 and 2008.

1999 looks similar to 2011.    2008 looks like a closer match to this year... more zonal but a colder version with less SW flow.

I'm not sure how the major stations ended up that June, but reviewing the PRISM data for our area we had a well below average June which is amazing considering the heatwave at the end, but the first 20 days of the month were extremely cool. There was also a major heatwave in August. I'll always remember the thunderstorm at the end of that heatwave because I watched from my Dad's farm as lightning hit the hillside above Silverton and soon smoke came billowing up and there was a flicker of flame and then a few minutes later the fire siren went off in town. Fortunately it was contained to about 10 acres.

More rain now today then any of the days over the weekend. A nice surprise. We are getting to the time of year where things could shut off at any time, and once they do, we will be waiting months for any more meaningful rain.

I remember a 100 degree day at the end of June 2008, tho of course most of that summer was cool. ;)

I just ran the satellite loop for Jun - Aug 2008... the first 3 weeks of June were miserable but the last week was quite sunny.    And July was quite sunny as well.   There was only a few days that month that were really cloudy.     The first half of August was also nice and then the second half was fairly cloudy.    Looks like September was really nice in 2008 as well.    I am holding out hope that we flip to something more reasonably sunny in a week or two.

2008 was good for warm season t'storms. Usually the cold types take up most of the thunders over a year in NW Oregon.

5/24, 6/29, 7/3, then I think there was a 3 day in a row stretch of thunders in August that year (8/16,17,18?).

I didn't have my first camera until late 2008. June 29 storm event had one of the best mammatus displays in that area.

I just keep thinking about 1996. I am not sure Tim would have made it through that year... Salem had 66.96" of rain that calendar year, most on record.

Geeking out on more PRISM data, that year had about 105" of precip here.

Interestingly the coldest year here according to the PRISM data was 2011, which was also the last year SLE was below average. The takeaway from that could be we have had a warm decade, or that because of increasing UHI it takes close to a record cold year up here to produce a below average annual mean at SLE (When compared to historical averages, not 1991-2020.).

Warmest year here according to the PRISM data was 1934.

The Cedar Lake station had 113 inches of rain in 1996... that has actually become the norm up here for the last decade.   In 2020 that station had 123 inches of rain so I have experienced similar years even recently.

And June 1996 was actually drier than normal... and then July and August were spectacular.     1996 sounds nice right now.   Seriously... I would love to have a JJA period like that this year.

Hmmmm... 96’ was pretty much the wettest year on record everywhere in W. Oregon. Looks like 1937 was a very wet year too.

Make it through 1996?   I would be loving life with a summer like that.   👍

According to PRISM data my area had 69.02 inches of rain which is crazy.

I believe it. I know Silverton had over 70" in 1996. Looking at the data for Tim's area, it was drier up there than down here. His location got about 88" of precip which is just barely above average.

Also to note... 2020 was the 3rd wettest calendar year in his area. Though 2019 featured well below normal precip there. The past decade has largely been at or above normal rainfall wise in his neck of the woods. Wettest year on record for Tim's area was 1933, followed by 1990 and then 2020. Coldest year by far was 1955.

Warmest year was 1934 for Tim as well, barely nudging out 1958 and 2015 by 0.1F.
