June 2022 - Summer Begins

We desperately need more rain here.  My rose bush isn't flattened enough from the weight of all the water on the blooms.  We might as well go for the full on crushing and then have the flower petals beaten into the ground.  Then and only then will I be satisfied we have had enough water fall from the sky.

Did it even rain in the Seattle area today? Wasn't it like sunny and 70 there yesterday?

Speak for yourself.  When you get as old as I am you may feel differently.  I have simply gotten tired of it.  I have an aunt who lived in Aberdeen and she had the same thing happen.  One year she decided she was done with it and moved to New Mexico.

I can only speak for myself.  so... ok.

I don’t really think it’s been extremely bad especially as we’ve moved into the second half of May here. It’s definitely been leaning wet and cloudy but there has been some nice days mixed in too.

Some pretty wet GFS ensemble members popping up, but the operational and the GEM really dry things out, but it stays cool.

Minus EPO and minus PNA suggests relatively dry at least, but certainly cool.

Pullman is at 2.93 inches for the month right now... which is +2.36 or 514% of normal.    And Pullman is +5.56 for the water year.

Tri-Cities is at 338% of normal for June... and +2 inches for the water year which is statistically significant because they only average about 7 inches a year.

Spokane is also at 303% of normal for June now with much more coming today.

Sounds like a pretty dire drought situation in central and eastern WA.  🤔

Yellowstone river is running at historic levels this morning. Currently at 13.2ft near Gardiner which is nearly 2ft higher than the previous record set back in June 1918. The Gallatin river near me is at its highest level since 1974.

The northern Yellowstone entrance is blocked off since this bridge washed away.

Same thing could be said about people who complain about long periods of sunny and hot weather.

Nah, the complaining from some about statistically moist periods is always worse than the other side.  Tangibly, this spring and early summer so far has been delightful, something for everyone.

Yesterday was dry here. Not super-warm, but still a pleasant afternoon. Nice to see the more southerly trend in storm tracks persist. We have had more than enough rain up this way.

No this is (was?) the Carbella bridge about 17 miles north on Hwy 89. The Gardiner bridge sits nearly 100ft above the Yellowstone river, the whole state would probably wash away if the Yellowstone crested that high!

No this is Carbella bridge about 17 miles north on Hwy 89. The Gardiner bridge sits nearly 100ft above the Yellowstone river, the whole state would probably wash away if the Yellowstone crested that high!

I was going to say... I thought that bridge was pretty high when we went through there in October, I didn't really remember much about it though.

It was cold last night. Had to turn on the heaters this am for the first time in a month or so. I had .19 inches of rain overnight, so in about 18 hours, we've had 1.07 since 1pm yesterday.
