Was 68 earlier down to 63 now NW wind kicked in. Not much in the way of precip today in the area besides some rain showers over the kitsap peninsula.

63?   That sucks.

Pretty interesting stat here.  The largest daily minus departures for each month at SEA from Dec to present.

Dec ... -20

Jan ... -14

Feb ... -14

Mar ... -8

Apr ... -13

Jun ... -8

Jul ... -10

Might have to go back a long time to find anything colder.

New EPS weeklies even more bullish on the shift in tropical forcing around the dateline. Looks like it happens ~ July 20th, verbatim.

Ignore the 500mb look on the ensemble means right now. That will come into focus later.

12z EPS. Looking like the mid July heat event has potential to be a hefty one in terms of duration.

I feel daft.  I didn't realize this was for Portland.  I thought it was Seattle and was getting quite anxious about it.  So if this holds up, this might mean 80s and a low 90 for Seattle.  Ugh still, but hopefully it waters down.

Let’s be real. Anyone thinking we are going to make it through a summer without at least 20-25 90+ days in the willamette valley is delusional.

What’s your guess for PDX/SLE/EUG?

I’ll go 12/14/16

That’s velocity potential. But you’re correct, +VP200/upper level convergence over the WPAC is La Niña like.

Missed a good storm. Bummer. Hopefully this pattern continues or shows up again. When does monsoon season typically wind down in the sw? 099F1572-955A-4C30-A0B7-462A19F17DFA.gif.5fdc853a3cf141b90117d069d9048655.gif48F717AF-66C9-471B-9481-CE952D191166.thumb.gif.95c7d251a5f98136d83033e4e6f02ab3.gif

Monsoon season can push into September pretty easily, but I’d guess it’ll cut off a little early this year.

Would be really nice if we could score something measurable in the Portland area

Yeah glad we are gonna avoid a shutout july already with the rain yesterday but would be nice for everyone to atleast get something before the heat starts up.

A beautiful 76F out there today. Couldn’t ask for better weather on the 4th.

Been absent lately with my sister in law in Indiana having had a seizure and they found a mass on her brain. Needless to say our family is making some long-term decisions as to how soon we will be moving to the Midwest.

Uncertain times indeed. I hope y’all are well.

Sorry to hear that man, best wishes for her.

Context of the convo you reference was that June was “miserable”.

I said it wasn’t too far removed from climo, minus that AR event earlier in the month.

Ok, that's cool. I honestly haven't been tracking the conversations/arguments on here very closely lately, or the PNW weather for that matter.

But when you made that statement about June being average, seemed like it was worth a regional map check for precip. That's all. 🙂 Happy 4th.

No sniper fire I assume, so that’s a win.

Our former neighbors at the family lake house  that moved to Illinois about 2yrs ago were just a block away when the shooting started. He had two of their kids with him and his wife had their other young kid with her about a half block behind at the parade. With people running in all directions he lost visual of his wife and other kid, he grabbed the kids with him and ran away from the gunfire and into a retail shop that seemed safer. She and their other kid ended up jumping into a strangers minivan that was also trying to get away from the scene. They all ended up being safe but the mental scars are going to be with them for a long time I’m sure.
