Atleast the gfs usually runs too warm anyways. Probably 3-5 degrees too warm and I wouldn’t worry about those 90s at the end of the run just yet.

Ya, thankfully it shows a big drop at the end, hopefully the start of a much cooler pattern

Currently raining and 62 degrees here at 1:30 in the afternoon! We've been really fortunate with well timed rain/storms with so much SW flow keeping everything green and lush while keeping the real heat just to our east. Seems like everyday this month we have been under some sort of a severe risk for storms. Pretty incredible stormy stretch and already record breaking for July according to the NWS. Looking pretty likely that we'll surpass 2008 for the most severe issued storms since 1986.

High mark for the summer is still just 87F. We might finally reach 90 on Sunday before cooling back down early next week. Just beautiful summer weather.

I feel like the EPS has been overestimating the western extent of the heat for a while now. It also doesn't seem to have a good grasp on the west's high terrain so color me skeptical. With that all said, I wouldn't be surprised if it torches the last week of July.

Regionally, I think it stacked up to a few of the greater Novembers. 1955, 1985, and 2010 were all big ones in Klamath Falls. I feel like a piece of the puzzle wasn't there, but the setup could have been good for Portland.

The kind of snow and cold that is more typical of early January occurred down there when I was moving there, and I just narrowly missed the whole thing. At least one record low temperature was set that month and still stands (-4 on 11/24/2010).

Nov 2010 was epic in Tahoe. 48" on the ground with a record low temp of -8F on Thanksgiving day!

The MJO transit is messing this up, right @Phil??

I don’t like when the EPS disagrees with me.

I don’t think it’ll get that warm in the PNW, and would even expect a cool pattern more than a warm one during that timeframe. But we’ll see.

Agree with this. Looks suspicious to me.

But the EPS is the gold standard of numerical guidance, so it should always be given some degree of weight.

*925mb temps* approaching 110°F over the Plains. Dafuk.

Ben Noll posted this ECMWF/UKMET "Superblend" rainfall anomaly map yesterday for August to October. Seems like there's going to be no let up for the Plains and it will remain drier than normal there the next few months. Looks slightly wetter than normal here west of the Cascades with the wettest anomalies up into the BC Coast.

I was in Paris Summer 2019 when it was 113 degrees there. Absolute insanity without AC.

It's the scheduled hot one here for today in Everett.  They had originally said a high of 77F, but walked it back to 76F.  Well it is 76F now and I am sure it could go hotter.  Everything's lush green and flowers are still blooming.  I can't believe how long they've been blooming.  My blueberries are doing mediocre this year, but my strawberries have been bountiful.  Tomatoes soon too.

The work ethic in this nation has been destroyed.

Haven’t mentioned this before but I just got a job with the City of Lake Oswego. It will be a parks and recreation role so for the most part it is outdoor work which I am very happy about. It actually pays pretty well for an entry level / college student job. The catch is the work day begins at 6:30, and I live in Tigard so I will probably have to be in the car by 6 every morning. Fine by me. Going to bed at 10 is underrated anyway.

Nice day.    Actually finished work early and out on Lake Sammamish now with the family.   82 degrees out here... 81 in North Bend.

I mean... Isn't that just the surface there? Or even below the ground? Honestly it's pretty weird they have 925mb temps across the high terrain. Do they extrapolate downward via the wet adiabatic rate, or something like that?

I don't think you understand how much I envy the weather you've had. Severe risks every day? I haven't seen more than one lightning bolt since last August!

925mb pressure level is still well above the surface there.
