Portugal hitting 117°F is next level insane.

1,027 deaths in Portugal and Spain alone. These are direct heat related deaths, not excess mortality.

78°F here with fog developing in the tree canopy. Strange, must be transpiration related. Not even the slightest breeze.

Still feels nasty. Windows dripping with condensation.

Unfortunate, I read that only 25% of households have AC in Portugal and only 30% in Spain. At least in Portugal and Northern Spain they got the cooler waters of the Atlantic Ocean people can take a dip in to cool off. Compared to the warmer waters of the Mediterranean Sea.

This pattern is f**king absurd. There’s no relief anywhere. F**king useless season.

Nuclear winter can’t come soon enough.

Except that is not that "hot" out here.   Just temps in the 80s with dewpoints in the 50s for western WA.    Not death.

I would have to put 16-17 on the top of my list. Best winter I've ever experienced. There were numerous snow/ice events, 7 in total I think, so many I lost count. And we can't forget about Jan. 10-11 not only for how much snow fell but also for the duration as the snow stuck around for a while giving us frigid low temperatures. I didn't sleep much that winter with all the model riding! ❄🥶

It was the coldest winter in Portland since 1978-79! I'd also put it on the top of my list. The Jan 10-11th storm dropped like 13" of snow in one night in my location, and even more in some areas in the West Hills. The difference between that winter and my next snowiest (2013/14) is pretty large. Sadly I didn't get too much in Feb 2021, but we were lucky to not lose power for long.

It's wild that the warm/hot air keeps reloading over the Plains. Some of the long range forecast I've seen say this could go on through November for them. We gonna need a Polar Vortex to get rid of it.

'03-'04 was my favorite winter ever, but from an objective standpoint '16-'17 is probably the best of my lifetime. Multiple snow events, consistently cold throughout including the first truly cold January in decades, and of course the heavy thundersnow event followed by a week of subfreezing highs.

'03-'04 was magical though. It had been 6 years at that point since we had a major snow event, which as a 12 year old weenie might has well have been forever.

I got 10" with the Jan 10-11 snowstorm. I live in the SW part of Gresham with some elevation so was able to get in on some of the higher totals. Then not much melting for the next several days which made the event even more special.

Thats a dang good workout right there. 💪 Then just relax, take a dip in the lake and enjoy the view all day long.
